This is terrible advice.

Imagine playing golf with one club.  It would be miserable.

In the fly fishing community, we always say that we always need one more rod.  I have ten, and they ain't cheap!

In my humble opinion, an individual only needs two pairs of skis... one for hard snow and one for soft snow

I'm down from 4 too 3. Got a carver, good spring crud buster and my powder ski. I could ski exclusively on my s7's all year and still be happy though.

Nah!! Not a problem.  I usually have at least 3 pairs in the truck, so if I don't like the first pair I take out....

4 pairs to choose from for BC is probably a bit much, but having a few distinctly different choices for someone living in the mountains makes a lot of sense to me.

Only if you are not good and/or don't like being creative.  While one club would be limiting, I had a friend I played with as a kid who could shoot close to par with 2 clubs- 4 wood and sand wedge- looked like he had fun with it!
