I bought heel-wedges... how will these affect my footbeds?

Hello.

I recently purchased 1/4" heel wedges from my ski shop, and have installed them in my boots.  They feel great, I feel more balanced, and they've only cause one are (the right 5th met head) to need more shell work.

However, my concern is that the wedge changes the shape of the surface my (unposted) custom footbeds rest on.  The footbeds are fairly rigid (though definitely bendable) thermoplastic that I believe were designed to rest on a FLAT bootboard?

Do you have any thoughts on this?  Can I just keep the footbeds?

(btw, the wedges are about half the length of the bootboard).

if they are tapered then it shouldn't be a problem if not why not

They are a flat platform, then tapered for the last inch.  I'll see how they work on the hill I guess.

I would taper them over the whole length of the lift rather than just the last inch.  That sounds more like a heel "ledge".

Why is your footbed unposted?

I don't know bud.  I bought the custom footbeds at LeFeet in Winter Park.  Someone here said they were unposted.

In truth, I don't even know what that means.

I'd add that I didn't taper the wedges.  No no no... I purchased them at the last inch was tapered.

I don't have the tools and apparatus to pull off a self-taper as you mention.

Nobody replied to my Ski Gear Discussion post yet, so...

Should my wedges be on the bootboard (as they are now), or should they be inside the liner under the footbed?

Hi Vitamin,

You had asked "what is posting"?

Posting is material added to the bottom of a foot bed shell(the top skin) to fill in all the voids under it and then ground flat so as to sit stabilized in the bottom of the boot liner.     this adds to the support of the foot, so if you look at the underside of the foot bed it should be perfectly flat from the heel to the met head area.

Get the heel wedge ground to a continuous tapper by your fitter,

as said before what you have sounds like a "heel ledge"

put the wedge under the liner on top of the boot board, tape it in place.
