All three have now followed whitetail's lead and will open on Friday!
They have all stated limited terrain. I for one am just happy that the season is going to begin.

I'm happy to see the three Snow time resorts opening up as well. Still, I will be waiting until they can get some more terrain open before I drive past the Snow time resorts to go to an area with more runs open. I've got my advantage card waiting for when some intermediate/advanced terrain is opened up.
Liberty says they should be able to get more runs open by this time next week. Weather will be a bit warm for the next couple of days, so the beginner terrain and terrain park they are opening with is all they will have open for the weekend and likely into early next week.
I also have my advantage card packed in my bag, along with the rest of my ski clothes, waiting for the first day of my season. Unfortunately going anywhere else right now is out of the question. I just got back from Buffalo, NY and they were all closed down too. Hopefully Libert or Whitetail will be mostly open by next Saturday I am supposed to head up there with a group of friends for an early birthday celebration.
Keeping my fingers crossed on that one!
Just got an email from Roundtop saying they will have Minuteman open tomorrow. Also, the DC Ski Center page for their demo day says that Whitetail expects to have top to bottom skiing by Wednesday (so at least some intermediate runs).
Over fifty temps Saturday and Sunday doesn't look promising.
Roundtop recently installed some type of water coolers that cool the water before pumping it so they can make more snow in less than ideal temps.
The new snow guns at the Snow Time resorts are state of the art. The guy that works for the company (http://www.technoalpin.com) and sells them to Snow Time showed up at my house to buy my skis recently and was telling me about them. Pretty impressive technology!
Hoping to make some turns at Roundtop either Wed. or Thur. night. Conditions should greatly improve by then! Looking forward to meeting some EpicSki members this year.
Have you seen the WhiteTail webcam images lately? The live shots are at http://www.skiwhitetail.com/webcams.htm, but here's a download of the current picture for the record:
I can't image they're going to have a demo day on Jan. 4. In any case, I'm no longer dismayed about being stuck in a conference all that day!
I bet it looks a lot different now with the cold temps we had the past 2 days.
Indeed it does! They have stated they are blowing snow 24 hours until thursday when temps may get too warm. However, they expect to have most of the mountain open for this weekend. WOOHOO I get to finally get on the slopes with my new skis :)
Made my first turns of the season this last Saturday. Conditions were decent for around here! Cover was good on the trails that were open for the first part of the day. When we came back from lunch at 3 there were some bare spots.
I will say my new skis really make such a difference for me. I am so much more comfortable on the slopes this year compared to last year. Having all my own equipment made such a big difference.
Though one of my friends was not so lucky. He had rental skis and identified himself as a Type I skiier and by the end of the day when he was taking turns with some speed he kept losing a ski on the turn. I was skiing behind him and would see the ski fly out and then he would fall.
Can't wait till my next chance out. Looking at MLK day I think!
Hang in there, rain today with some snow in the AM. Snow Time will blow like crazy as the temps go down. I plan to be at RMR all day Sat. and Sunday, Just can't wait
I am thinking about skiing at Roundtop on Sunday. Do you know when the NASTAR starts by chance?
I'm planning on being up at Roundtop Sunday as well. Look for the guy in the almost neon green Helly Hanson jacket.
Keith
I wonder how crowded it will be this weekend....
I will probably be up at Whitetail on Monday. Unfortunately and fortunately I will be very busy on Saturday and Sunday this week. Conditions should be amazing coming up though.
I will be definitely be skiing at RT tomorrow. I will probably be there until 1:30-2. I will have on my blueish green Oakley jacket skiing on Volkls. Hope to see/meet some of you there tomorrow.
Sorry, I have been off line at RMR Sat and Sunday and skied Liberty today. All have been assume. Rain tuesday with the rest of the week back to snow making. I'll be there on Sat all day, Ski Instructor. Stop by and ask for Bob or Ski me Bob in Ski School.
Had fun last Sunday at Roundtop. Sorry I missed any EpicSki bears that were there. Tried my hand at Nastar for the first time in 15+ years and got to within 9/10ths of a second to a bronze. Hopefully I can improve on that next time.
I'm probably going to go up to Whitetail or Liberty Saturday evening and wondering if there will be any other bears their to meet up with?
I ran Nastar that Sunday as well but don't remember seeing a neon green jacket....That was an interesting course between the grippy snow and the two "jumps/drops" lol It was fun though!

Perhaps neon green isn't the right description, but it does standout. Helly Hanson calls the color Wasabi green.
I agree with you on the course. I probably would have tried another run or two to get my time lower, but the jump/drops at the bottom kept getting bigger and I felt that pushing it anymore would have gotten dangerous. I did have a lot of fun during the runs that I did.
