Stivot / smear turn / powerslide etc etc....

Hi guys...was wondering what the movement pattern involved would be.  The lad in the above video seems to rotationally seperate to execute this move and appears for all I know about it to make a good job.  I've watched some of the top WC boys too and they seem to stay squarer to their skis though.  They also seem to do this move reasonably unweighted I think.

How would one go about logically  learning to do this skill well?  I assume the idea / objective is a simple non carved redirection at the top / beginning of the turn on steeper terrain or turnier gs courses.

I was thinking starting on my best side.  Also doing some braquage to get me going...

All input welcome

Sounds like you have the idea, ScotsJohn.

Discussed a bit in this thread:

Yes, some unweighting will make it easier and braquage will be your friend for this one:) Find a nice smooth consistent surface to play on.

Good luck.

Start with simple side slips, be able to do it on a firm groomed trail almost indefinitely.

Falling leaf.

Do a parallel turn where you release the edges at the fall line and just drift.

Practice everywhere by learning to throw the skis sideways to slow down when approaching lifts, crowds, etc. Then be able to turn them forward again and keep going. This is a lot of fun.

Get used to that by doing soft hockey stops and drifting sideways.

A racing situation would be different and more complicated tactically. It may be much slower. Just cause Bode does it doesn't mean it's faster for others.

The video is very impressive, and fun!
