Signs that it REALLY needs to snow

So far this morning I've read that slow skiers need to keep to the right side of the groomers so the more rad people can fly by them on the left, therefor taking away slow skiers rights to explore the mountain, and that mags calling bindings "binders" is a legitimate reason to stay away from TGR.  Any more gems around here?  And yes, PLEASE SNOW!!!

The best rock ski is a ski that you really like, but it is beat up, dinged edges and lots of base repair.

I once used a ski I hated (hated the way the R-EX skied) for a rock ski. Caught the tail on a rock wall on the side of a narrow chute and ate it badly. Never again. Too dangerous.

You have to be willing to hit rocks with your rock ski, but not because you don't like the way it skis, more that it is ruined for firm snow carving already. IMO

I didn't have any narrow rock skis this year so did some damage to my really nice Stockli's. Very bad decision, now in retrospect. should have picked something up, old race skis are good for firm plus rocks. I'll try to tune them and never do that again.

guroo I skied some of the best spring conditions since April in the rian yesterday, it REALLY needs to snow.

Well I thought Betsy and I would head up with the road bikes and see if cgeib and BB would like to join us for a ride over Vail pass and back.  biggrin.gif

People living in snow country thinking and planning road trips.  Or thinking if it doesn't snow, at least be warm enough to waterski.

I was riding a resort shuttle last week while staying with my family who was visiting from out of town. The shuttle driver:

 

  • Rudely kicked three snowboarders and a skier off the bus because they carried their gear on the bus instead of putting it on the rack
  • Stopped the bus on the side of the road and screamed (literally) at a polite Asian man who requested to be dropped off at his building in the condo complex before we had actually arrived at the condo. ("I STOP AT ALL THE BUILDINGS, DO YOU WANT TO BE DROPPED OFF RIGHT HERE??!!")
  • Nearly engaged is a fist fight with pissed off passengers

 

Hopefully enough people left negative feedback that he is fired. God, it needs to snow.

Our shuttle driver plays ski films that he brings to work from his private collection. the ride is so pleasant that people are looking for excuses to use the shuttle. our drivers are very friendly, glad to have work, glad to have friendly people all around. and this with NO snow.

All the other drivers I've experienced have been wonderful, and love to chat with passengers, especially the Vail city bus drivers. This one guy though, with the Marriot SteamSide...he had issues.

Being a lifelong ice hockey player from a congested ctiy, that is one of the most beautiful things Ive ever seen in my life.  That scenery is amazing!!! I always wanted to skate a river like that ever since I saw 'Mystery Alaska' .  And that expansive lake you're skating on looks immaculate!!! WOW

Topics about longest run, shortest run, most patrollers, least vertical feet, most vertical feet, etc. proves people aren't or can't get out there.  

 

My son and I spent the better part of last Thursday skiing powder, bumps and trees at RLM.  GLOAT, only because in normal years we're often dodging rocks around Christmas.  I helped people unload at the "courtyard" on Monday and saw cars from Colorado, Utah, Idaho, Wyoming, Washington and several midwest states.  The midmest states and Wyoming are very common at RLM but the other states are not.  People are flocking to RLM from everywhere.eek.gif

The resorts I'm skiing just received a little rain...that's not good for the man-made snow we have.  And that's all we have!  Will things get better, yes.  Did we get spoiled from last season, yes.  Am I glad I have not had to start my snowblower, yes.  Don't worry, it will DUMP and we will all be skiing a different tune soon!

Normally I don't get "that" pissed at idiot snowboarders scraping the runs clean while sliding down entire runs past their ability level in a horizontal slide.  But seeing that happen today on probably the last of our 8 inches of slush with a slow drizzle of rain coming down really made want to ring some necks....   It REALLY needs to snow!

Here is a sign it needs to snow:  It's snowing in all the Washington ski areas.  About 15" in the last 24 hours, more on the way.  So if you're even contemplating a trip to ski some of our beloved Cascade Concrete, you know it's been too long a drought.
