Curent conditions in Colorado - report

By the way: Breckenridge heavily 'tuned' their snow report. There is NO way the had 5 inch in the 48 hrs before I went. Maybe they referred to manmade snow :-)

Looks my original post disappeared.

Skied Breck, Keystone and Copper the last days. 30-50% open (at full price, of course). Mostly blues and greens open. Some groomed blacks are open as well. Conditions on the groomed runs are surprisingly good. Few icy spots. Pretty good flow. Enjoyed it!

Having said that, the valley floor and hills opposite of the resorts are completely green/brown. You would have a hard time to find a decent spot for snowshoeing. There is just nothing. Downtown Denver has much more snow. Once you drive up into the mountains it all disappears.

Verdict: pitiful conditions overall. Exceptional job of snow making and grooming. If you enjoy skiing fast groomers and do not mind paying 100 bucks for its: not too bad. To sun makes up for the lack on snow :-)

agree on overall snow cover in Summit county.  Far more snow down in Denver right now, though very warm this week, so that will change.

Breck yesterday was as described...about 1/3 open, thin cover, mostly manmade on the runs, but still fun w/the family if you had a season pass.  Not too crowded for Xmas week due to the lack of snow; guess 2010 spoiled us all.  We stayed generally over on 7, as that is what my 11 year old wanted.  For the weather so far, they have done a pretty good job of getting runs opened with minimally acceptable snow cover.  Sad to say, not much expected prior to 2012 for the I70 corridor.

Haven't been to Winter Park but people on the lift said it's similar to all other resorts. It's fun on the slopes if you don't mind the cash.

I'm in Glenwood Springs now and there is barely any snow on the surrounding mountains. Will go for a hike tomorrow. But people said Aspen did a phenomenal snow making job, will check in the next days.
