Sorry about your wife Crimptacular... enjoy the new snow!
We're suppose to arrive at noon on Saturday but wonder if we might be held in Atlanta.

I would advise having all electronic devices fully charged with ample snacks packed.......
Best of luck getting in; good news is when you do, it should be off the hook.
Wow...Jackson really rolling now! I'll see you guys out there at the end of February. My Virgin voyage to this ski mecca and I am really excited. Be safe everyone.
Sunday afternoon, fingers crossed. Plan "B" being formulated.

please see post #62...
How did that "early" tram work out for you?

Now for the good news...
Twenty-five inches of snow in the last 24 hours. 37" in the last 48 hours. The mountain is fantastic from top to bottom. Avalanche warning is in effect for all backcountry areas.
I have a feeling the Alta chutes and Expert chutes will be open as soon as ski patrol can do avi work on the rest of the mountain. I'll take a look at Corbet's from the tram today to see how it looks.
Oh, and the even gooder news...
It's still snowing hard and is supposed to keep it up into Sunday.
I'm off to ride the early tram. Y'all have fun.
There is no plan B, get here and get some. Good luck, because everywhere elese is second best!
I skied today with some people who got in last night by flying into Idaho Falls. My wife flew out of IF this morning, because she knew that JH was likely a no go.
IF is plan "B"
Sure looked like quite a line, even at noon. How do you keep your place to take a break when you're in line for 4 hours?
hoping it works for ya' good luck and let us know.
Hey birthday boy, is this the kind of presents we can all expect if we live there?
So is anyone going to post up a few more stoke pics for us who are drooling over the reports we are reading about? Also, I heard the snow was very heavy and wet but your picture of Liberty didn't seem to show that. can you just update a bit.
(yeah, I am suffering this AM from withdrawal...ski porn is on and we have 2" of fresh here but...)
Thanks! The snow arrived on Tuesday- my birthday. It always does. Props to Finndog!
I can't get any good pics of Blaze- he's always ahead. This is another good pic of Liberty. In an area of the mountain known as "Deepest Darkest", somewhere under the Gondola- always a great late PM secret stealthy line.
The kids are getting to be experts on late(r) afternoon deepish little-hit lines. Follow Blaze, if you can!
More snow today!

We haven't made it yet... had to circle Atlanta yesterday morning because of thunderstorms and by the time we landed our connected flight to Jackson had left the gate... that one was diverted to SLC from what we were told due to Jacskon being closed... Atlanta was shut down for a time yesterday too but eventually we flew to Dallas in the afternoon which is where we spent the night... tentatively we're scheduled to fly out at 5 tonight so we could be skiing tomorrow if everything goes right, "fingers crossed"
best of luck to you! I hear there's a special flight this AM at 10 from JH to ATL. They are trying to get as many people out as they can to Atlanta. Personally, I would just go get a hotel and ski. I realize that may not be an option for many but they just keep canceling flights anyway.
Snow is coming in again today so I hope you get a window that gets you in. Cheers.
BTW dallas as in DFW airport? could there be a worse airport to get stuck at?
Greasy BBQ or really bad Starbucks (for some reason, they can't make a decent capi or latte there)
The snow was awesome yesterday! I got onto an 8:25 Tram and got some first tracks down The Bowl and The Hobacks. I was still getting pretty fresh tracks on Thunder right up until lunch when I had to go meet my local kids group. 14" in the last 24 with 7 after lifts closed. Going to be another great day. I'm too beat for the early thing, but will be in a video clinic this morning.
Sorry about the lack of photos. Until today, it's been decidedly un-photo-friendly conditions with high winds, blowing snow, total whiteouts, and me skiing alone a good share of the time.
Fifteen more inches of snow in the last 24 hours. The good news is that we've had - I think - 63" of snow since the storm started on Tuesday afternoon. Most of the snow was heavy, dense, wet, glop that was plastered onto the mountain. It made for somewhat tough conditions at times, but the hill is skiing absolutely great now. Today's new snow was the right kind.
The sun finally came out today and I wish I had had the camera. I had two successive best-run-of-the-year laps this morning - one of the Cirque and one on South Colter.
The mountain is now skiing absolutely great. Pretty much everything is open with the possible exception of Corbet's. I just haven't paid any attention to it because the skiing's been too good everywhere else.
Driving back from Teton Village in the sunshine this afternoon, I could see evidence of at least a dozen natural avalanches on the north and east-facing ridges and bowls south of the ski resort. I think there's some very sensitive snow out there right now, and a little sunshine should help either trigger things or settle them. I'd be really nervous about skiing very much of the out-of-bounds right now, but I'm sure the lab rats are all over it.

Urban Taco in terminal C. Absolutely superb. Can't help with the lousy coffee, though.
which airline is that for? I don't remember seeing that one.
Terminal C is the old American Airlines terminal (not the fancy new one). Urban Taco is back in the corner of one of the "food court"-ish cutouts. It is not very visible. It's next to a Chinese place. That group also has a McD and a couple other mainstream things -- forget exactly which ones.
Or too much snow?

Here is a picture from this last storm cycle. There's a lot of snow in the Tetons.
A follow-up to our Jackson Hole trip.
To start, my wife went to the clinic in Jackson for an MRI on Friday as there was concern that she may have messed up her meniscus and might require emergency surgery. It turns out she has a complete ACL tear on some heavy bruising on the bone. We're back in BC now and will be seeing a specialist this week.
Since my last post on Wed, we experienced two flight cancellations; one Wednesday and one Thursday. This allowed me to ski Wed-Fri during the storm!!
Thursday was unbelievable!! Threw down some laps on Après-Vous waiting for the gondola to open. Couldn't believe how deep it was! Was giggling and laughing the whole way down my first run as snow flew in my face. So many stoked peeps on the hill and everyone on the lift was cheering the fresh stuff!
Spent the rest of the day on Thunder Chair and managed to get one run in Cheyenne Bowl while Sublette was open. Would have loved to hit up the tram but it, and Sublette, closed early due to increased risk of slides. Took a run down the Hobacks ( not sure which one) and WOW....absolute paradise!
Friday, the wife went into town and I hit the hill. The lines were LONG and nothing was going to open soon due to the 24 + inches of snow that fell. I hiked with a group up to Après-Vous to avoid the line at the base and was one the first in line! YAY!!! 2 hr wait for the lift to open....BOO!!! On well, good on mountain patrol to gettin the hill open and for keeping everyone safe. I lost count of the explosions but it was greater than any amount I've ever heard at Whistler. Finally rode up at 11:30 and immediately hit up Casper and took my first run I between the trees!!!! Holy crap!!! Had snow blasting off of my chest and it redefined "face shots" for me! Stayed at that lift until I saw Thunder open and the trekked that way. Was able to get 2 incredible runs down tower 3 (site of the wife's accident) and a sweet pillow line jus to the skier's right (??). Snow was much heavier Friday (a la PNW) and it burnt me out by 2pm which coincided perfectly with the time I needed to get ready for our flight. We made it back Friday evening and are now recovering in Van.
The wife's accident is setback for her as she was becoming an incredible freeskier; starting to get some hucks in and tackling the steepest of lines! A huge thanks to the JMHR ski patrol for the quick response on the hill and the staff at the clinic at the base. You guys (and gals) were awesome!
We'll back next season when she's back on the sticks!! Will try to sample some of the backcountry next time (rumour has it that Granite Ridge is pretty sick)!
Looking forward to Whistler this week!
We're finally here... staying at the TML... we enjoyed a nice meal at Cascades... bed time shortly... looking forward to the ski day tomorrow.
TPJ, I know you don't say it is-- but i guess it turns out this pic isn't from the Pass. "Somewhere else in Idaho."

Looks like we were all pranked.
Great photo, though. It reminds one of photos of the Pass from 50 years ago.
