Left lane sports

I recently ordered something from Leftlanesports and they cancelled my order 2 days later saying they oversold. Besides the only other time I ordered from them it took 2 weeks to receive my item after charging me $8 for shipping. Not a very reliable outfit in my eyes. I'd stick to more reliable places to purchase from. Anyone else have a problem with them? So pissed about this.

Don't think I've ever actually ordered anything from them, though I've been a member for a while. I like The Clymb better and have never had any issues with them.

Important to note for anyone not familiar--Left Lane is a discount retailer that sells what I assume are leftovers and overstocks for major discounts (30 to 70 percent). The idea that they might sell out of something before pulling it off the site isn't all that surprising. Their entire purpose is to basically sell out of whatever inventory they have.

As for shipping, I think it tends to take longer. You're going to have to pay for it, since you get such a big discount on the item(s) (not like they're going to offer free shipping like retail outlets sometimes do).

I'm of the mind that if I'm getting a huge discount, I'll deal with the bumps in the road. If I need something fast, I'll go retail.

I like the Clymb too. Just like anything I don't like being told I can buy something only to have it not available after I've already paid for it. It's called professionalism. I don't give my hard earned money to people who don't know how to do business, which probably means they won't know how to handle problems later down the road. Too many discount places online for me to put up with that.

Overreaction. It happens anywhere - stores run out of things eventually and sometimes they don't pull them from the Web in time. I've had it happen with regular retailers and pro deals, too. Hell, grocery stores run out of advertised items. It's part of retail, and par for the course when the retailer was essentially created for no other purpose than to liquidize merchandise.

You want those huge discounts, you take the negatives that come along with it. It's just as likely to happen at any of those other discounters. You want top-notch customer service, shop at regular outdoor retailers, which offer some of the best service I can think of.

You think Left Lane is bad, you should see the pro deal sites (if you haven't). They're borderline rude with their rules (surprising since they exist to foster good relations with shop employees, media, etc.). They say it'll take weeks for delivery, don't contact them for a month about it, etc. Terrible customer service, but it's all about the discount.

Technically, retailers aren't supposed to charge your credit card for mail-order until they're actually shipping the product.  So if they did that (unclear from your post), you could complain to someone like the Better Business Bureau.

If they just sold out and cancelled your order without charging you -- happens, especially with discount sites like discussed above.  It's different if a site/store is constantly doing this as a bait-and-switch ("Oops, we just sold out of the super good deal... how'd you like to buy <much more expensive thing> instead?").

They never charged my credit card. I'm not saying they are a shady business, I am just disappointed.

I understand if websites run out of stock and can't update their website in time. But when you have timed releases in limited quantity and nothing stays on your website for very long, how hard can it be? The reason I'm upset is because I had a general idea what I wanted I patiently watch their site for it to show up for a couple of weeks. When it did I needed to decide on one quickly, then It took 2 days for them to tell me they ran out. At that point, because of the limited quantity, the other options were sold out, waiting begins again. So it's not my money but my time they've wasted. Other types of retailers, you go there, it's out of stock or they didn't update their site. It's OK because I have much less time invested in the transaction.

I wish they offered me an alternative with a similar discount, I would have been satisfied because while I was looking for something specific I wasn't stuck to any brand. I actually had a similar problem with another site, I asked if there was anything they could do for me. They found me one and sent it to me, now I'm a big fan.

Just because it happens all the time doesn't make it OK.

Hate to keep arguing, but it sounds like you're completely projecting. That time wasted was your deal, not Left Lane's. Left Lane runs brands and specific items pretty haphazardly, so I'm surprised the item you wanted even showed up - no guarantee that was ever going to happen. You decided to wait for the item to show up on a site that frequently sells out of stuff, why's that Left Lane's fault?

As for offering another item, that's not necessarily even a possibility. Again, they're running selling closeout gear, it's not like they have a big REI-type warehouse of all kinds of brands of the same items.

Sounds like you're trying to get the best possible deal...understandable, but it comes with some risks. Same thing if you wait for regular retailers to run their end of the season ski sale - prices are great, but quantities limited and may be gone by the time you hit "order".

@Blikkem I'm so sorry you had to deal with this poor service!! This is not how any of us here at LeftLane want our service to be viewed. However, mistakes like this DO happen occasionally and for that we apologize.

If you send me a Private Message I will hook you up with some goodies! Not that this will change the fact that you had to deal with some bad service, just a way of making sure you know we care about you guys!!!
