This is a depressing story. Any thoughts on whether or not children should be allowed to ski solo (without parents) or what age is too young? I can't imagine letting my 7 year old ride a lift without me or someone else I know and trust. They said on the news that the kid wasn't riding with family or an instructor. I don't know if that is true or not.
I don't know the specifics here but it certainly opens up the topic for discussion.
Ski Patrol immediately responded to the scene, where the boy, a member of the Sugar Bowl Ski Team, was then transported via helicopter to Renown Medical Center in Reno, where doctors performed surgery.
It is with great sadness that we report the boy passed away earlier today due to injuries sustained in the fall. The entire Sugar Bowl community extends our heartfelt thoughts and prayers, love and support to the boy's family.
The incident remains under investigation by regulators from the State of California, working in conjunction and cooperation with Sugar Bowl Resort personnel.
