Search Function? Is it just me?

One of the all time, most typed phrases in internet message board history is "use the search function". I get it. I agree. But i seem to have poor results using Epics search function. Am i doing something wrong?

Example. I did a search of the exact same term on my ipad and then again on my desktop and got different results. Dont understand that one at all, but even beyond that i find the search function to be less than adequate a lot of times.

I completely agree. I have found it works much better to use Google, type in the search terms you want and then type in "site:epicski.com" and this will cause Google to search only within this site.

I agree that EpicSki's Search function is less than optimal compared to Google. Your best bet for better results is doing an Advanced Search -- Epicski Search And Advanced Search Tutorial

The engineering team is working on improving the mobile browsing experience here -- it's a big priority. #1 in fact.

bump

Even "keyword: epicski" works, for instance "Nordica ski: epic ski"

I don't even use operators. I just googled "WC68 epicski" and I think every one of your 176 posts appeared! wink.gif The same goes for most forums I've used. It makes me want to be a little more discreet. redface.gif

If you haven't noticed, the search function on EpicSki has been overhauled somewhat.

First of all, the general relevance of results has been modestly improved thanks to one key change. Previously, site search would boost threads in the results if they've had posts recently. We still do this, but we also now take into account total post count in a thread. This should keep the most popular threads on the site near the top of the search results, where before they'd sometimes get beat out by ancient or very short threads that just happened to have been bumped more recently. You may have found yourself wondering "Why doesn't the official thread on XYZ come up first?" This should help many of those situations.

Secondly, the UI of the results page has been totally redone. Some highlights:

  • 25 results per page instead of just 10
  • No more huge icons in your way
  • The search term is bolded where it appears in the results
  • Result types can be navigated on the left, instead of with wrapping and totally-broken top-tabs

A picture says a thousand words, here. Note the post counts on the threads! (Example taken from Huddler sister site.)

Thanks, nolo, those are excellent improvements, especially that a forum search will put recent threads near the top of the results list the way Google does.
