Whistler Trips

11-18 December - done. OK, not memorable

20-22 January

3-10 March

April and May to be determined.

I usually do between 15-25 days a year at Whistler, and have a bud that store a 4 ski quiver + the rest of my gear, so it's just get on the plane and go.

I can't resist...

Tell us what resort you are going to and how long>

Whitewater, and, since I live here, pretty much all winter, I guess...

Either ski or board.

Ski. If I took up boarding, I'd probably like that, too, so I'd have to spend another bunch of years trying to learn how to do it right.

How many people you going with.

Depends on the day and who I meet who is willing to tolerate me. Somewhere between none and 12, I suppose.

Why did you choose this area?

It has better snow than Red, it's closest to my house, and I have a pass there.

What do you want to achieve?

No broken bones, skis or cameras would be a plus. More powder days. Deeper powder days. New lines. Experiment with some of the technique advice I see here. Some great action and scenic photos. Whatever else comes to mind.

Going with a group of skiers and snowboarders (45 people in all) December 27 through January 1 to Whitewater, B.C.  Never been there before, the price sounded good, and we never do anything over New Years anyway.  My husband and I are skiers, but my son and his wife are boarders.  It sounds like a nice area and it will be our first ski trip of the season.  We are also going to Red Mountain for one day.  My objective is just to have a good time!

Could you give me some hints on what to expect / what to look for in revelstoke? I am heading there for 4 days in Feb or Mar .....not really sure what sort of skiing to expect from there, where to stay, must eat at places, equipment to bring etc.

Also going to be doing Apex in first week of Jan, and Sun Peaks sometime in Feb.

For the winter of 2011–12, the Canadian Farmers’ Almanac is forecasting unusually cold and stormy weather. For some parts of the country that means a frigid climate; while for others, it’s lots of rain and snow.

This will be a winter of “clime and punishment.” We are forecasting the upcoming winter will be cold to very cold, from Alberta east across Saskatchewan and Manitoba into western Ontario. Meanwhile, we predict temperatures will average above normal for much of Nova Scotia and, possibly, southern New Brunswick. Near-normal temperatures are expected elsewhere. A very active storm track will bring copious precipitation through the Great Lakes into central and eastern Ontario, Quebec, and much of the Maritimes. Another active storm track over the Pacific Ocean will guide systems into southern and central British Columbia and western Alberta, giving them a wetter-than-normal winter.

With ski bud Van:  Big Red cats Jan 17&18 probably Whitewater and maybe Red before or after.   RK Heliski out of Panorama sometime in Feb (have voucher)with Van and maybe wives will ski Panorama and Fernie on way up or back.

Yes, all the predictions were for a wet/snowy/cold winter - not true so far.  Southern BC and Northern Idaho/Wa/Mt had some pretty good snow before thanksgiving and not much since, a few inches here and there.  The storms that just passed thru were pretty warm, wet snow and/or rain, snow rain mixture.  As Whitewaters snow report stated 2 days ago:  "groomed-heavy", read that and rescheduled cat trip as skied Lookout day before in:  6 in of powder, settled to 3 in and the consistency of tapioca pudding.   So much for predictions up till now but could change any minute. One thing, we have a great base, when the powder comes it is going to be great.  Like so many things in life TIMING IS EVERYTHING

This year, it will consist of Lake Louise on our way to Kicking Horse, then Panorama because we've never been there before and finish up in Fernie. We have 9 days to complete so plenty of time.

My wife, daughter, and I are all skiers at different levels.

I chose this area to help complete a loop of skiing all Southern British Columbia mountains and to smell the pines.

The only thing I want to achieve is good food, good fun, some awesome scenery ,a couple of laughs along the way and no medical help needed..
