Lunar Eclipse on 12-10-2011

Did anybody else watch the eclipse this morning?

I cross-country skied in the dark out to the banks of the Snake River and took some photos of the eclipse.  It was cold as "the dickens", so I wasn't able to hold the camera very still and I didn't want to bother with a tripod.

It was really cool to watch the moon go from huge and full to almost gone.

About fifteen minutes after the start:

Just about halfway:

Getting smaller:

Going...

Almost gone:

At that point, some valley fog was starting to form and my camera couldn't pick up enough light to make the image.  Fingers freezing, I skied home and went back to bed.

I watched out the front window as the top half of the moon was in shadow, about like your third pix, and then the moon disappeared over the 10 Mile Range just west of Breckenridge.

Nice shots!  Wish I had known ahead of time, I just caught the last bit.

We had a beautiful eclipse with Long's Peak and the Indian Peaks setting it off.  Had I known it was going to be clear and in that position, I would've driven out to Davidson Mesa to get some shots.  I admire your diligence.

Nice shots! Haven't figured out how to post a pic here yet, but here's a link to some shots of the eclipsed moon setting behind Buffalo Mountain, in Summit County, Colorado: http://summitcountyvoice.com/2011/12/10/colorado-lunar-eclipse-in-the-mountains/

Here's my favorite (albeit, crappy) contributions from the back porch (wish we had enough snow for a ski or I had the mojo for a pre-dawn patrol to the top of mountain where the moon set):

Sweet photos! Thanks for the inspiration.

Submit them to Astronomy magazine?

Nice shots Bob.  I was too lazy to go out and look for it in the morning, but the night before I took some shots off our deck.  It is amazing how many bad ones I took--it is tough to get the right exposure.  Thankfully, digital film is cheap!
