Depends on the weather. More likely I'd go the mountain route unless it's stormy.

That's not the mountain route I was thinking of ... maybe hit  Monarch outside Salida? Might as well not stress yourself, though....

From Co Springs it definitely makes sense to head South on the interstate first and then straight west. (Don't remember route numbers, don't feel like looking them up.)  Not sure from Denver.  What is it, about an hour from Denver to CoSpgs?  Might make for a different answer.

I've driven from Denver to Crested Butte, which I think starts out the way you are talking about, in a snowstorm -- it was a pretty hairy drive.

I like the idea of stopping in Monarch - that was our CB plan, till the airlines ate one of our ski days.  So we just drove on through.

Thanks Guys....

I will take 285 route..... Looks like bluebird days Friday-Monday so no worries about storms....  Dont think Monarch works on this trip - but maybe as we head north to Vail after WC ....

Friday - Drive to WC via 285

Sat - Ski WC

Sunday - WC - Drive to Vail around 2pm

Monday - Vail/Beav

Tue - Early morning ski then 4:30pm flight home

All in all not a bad trip - was looking forward to relaxing a bit more - but this should be an adventure - and that I like...

Gearing up for Whistler in Feb - this should do it !!!!

Thanks again,,,,

This morning's email from WC said 4 feet in the last week, a foot yesterday and it's still snowing.  13 feet so far this year. Not getting there this year, I'm jealous. Eat at Alley House in Pagosa.
