Will 158's be ok for my wife

Hey I got a new pair of skis last season, and I was going to give my wife my old pair.  They are Atomic's, 158 length.  She's barely 5'1" and a beginner.  Do you think they would be too long?  She has boots btw.

yes, they are too long.

Absolutely too long!  If this was 1980, they would however be just about perfect, maybe even too short.  But we are'nt in 1980 anymore are we?

Therefore, don't cheap out on your wife and give her your hand-me-down skis and buy her a pair that is appropriate for her size and ability like a Blizzard Viva 7.0 or Volkl Oceana.  She will be much happier and as I am sure that you already know, when the woman is happy, everyone is happy but when the woman is miserable (like she would be on your old skis) no one is going to be happy.

Good luck,

Sure they might be a little long for her, but it's not as bad as some of these guys are saying.  158cm is 5'2", so it would be just above her head, minus the tips and/or tail in the snow contact length.

Really though we need to know her weight more than height also which ski, some are soft and some stiff.  Personally i wouldn't worry about a little too long unless they were WAY to stiff for her, considering she is a beginner.

She's about 120 lbs, the skis are an entry level Atomic about 5 yrs old, I'm an advanced int skier and they have been fine for me skiing in PA.  I found a good deal on Solomon Storm skis at the end of the season 2 yrs ago so I upgraded.  Haven't used them yet though.  I'm 5'6" 155lbs and the new skis are 160cm.  I fugured I would ask around if the hand me downs would be ok.  I figured they would probaly be too long though.

Thanks

I would worry about "a little too long". They are difficult to control for a beginner and may take all the fun away - even be the end of skiing.

The only way to know is for her to try them.
