Picked up a pair of Tecnica inferno 130's (last pair) that seem to fit my foot profile quite well (wider shallow forefoot, high instep, narrow heel, knobby anle bones, small dia leg shaft, narrow achiles tendon) and I am getting fairly uniform contact on the edges of my foot, but it is more than just brushing the shell -slight preasure pretty much from just back of the head of my big toe all the way back (a tiny bit more at rear of arch) and same on the outside from around the 6th toe back, and this is with footbeds in the shell, heel at the back. (Maybe 1-2 mm narrow??)
Shell length is about 9/16 on my larger foot. Shell clears ankle bones, bone spurs and has room for toes (and have a couple of mm exta width at forefoot). With liner in getting a very good initial fit, need punch off 1st met head on one foot and maybe corner of big toe (ingrown nail), and on the other at 6th toe as it hits seam of liner. Getting good contact on shin inc where it meets foot. Maybe slightly tight over instep, but depending on how liner breaks in should be able to make it up out of the boot board, though this will make the perimeter tighter if I drop down. It feels really secure, precise and feels good but am I pushing my luck with something this narrow? Ski in Quebec so am also a bit concerned about freezing the edges of my heal as I am held well, especially with the metal base plate and 1/2 dozen t-nuts going thru the sole. Also have frozen toes too many times so circulation is an issue, along with numb toes from pinched nerves.
Tried the inferno agent, and it actually bothered the instep more and hits a bone spur on the ankle. Salomon falcon cs was a bit tight on the toes and slightly tight on the instep and did not lock the base of the heel, or fill in the typical gap on the ankle at the bottom of the leg shaft and in front of the outer ankle bone as well as the inferno. Fischer white vacuum didn't work as I'm too long for the small shell fit and the fit on the proper shell fit is too sloppy at 300 psi.
Flex wise the 130 tecnica is too much I think (though I also have limited ankle flexion). i'm 50ish 155-160lbs (lean -about 12% body fat). Ski fast, like short turns, by CSIA level 4 instructor I'm a strong intermediate, but I want to pick that up a bit as I,m not happy with how I've been skiing the last few years. Ski on Blizzard g force supersonic 168, Volkl cross tiger steel 164, fischer race sc 155, fischer worldcup sc 165(ish). Like bumps, but not great. Taking out the rear bolts was not too bad, the flex is more progressive and I didn't mind that, but overall it still may be too stiff and need to be softer. Coming off fischer rc4 130 (not plug) which I think was a bit softer, and it at times was a bit stiff in the bumps.
Option B from another dealer is probably a salomon impact in the next shell size (as they fit shorter than the technica) with a SIDAS liner (transfoam flex or central high thermomouldable in the 'black box' shell).
Input appreciated as my independent fitter is out of town and I can't get a second opinion.
