Car rental in SLC for 5 days but I am under 25 - Suggestions?

Putting together the final details for my upcoming trip Dec. 9th. We will be staying at a condo which is in walking distance of PCMR, but we need a ride to and from the airport. From what I read, the shuttle is $80 each way and there are two of us, so I am trying to find a deal that costs less than ~$160. The best I have been able to find is through Enterprise, and its $175 for 5 days including the young renter fee. Thrifty and Dollar rent a car charge $25 a day for under 25 so the price really goes through the roof. Any other suggestions? I can't wait until March so I can stop paying through the roof on these rentals! Kills me every time.

Good luck finding a cheaper car rental than that.  One idea is to go to the rental car companies when you arrive and see if you can negotiate a better price.  Allresort is the least expensive shuttle service and they are very reliable (used their service a couple times).  If you are planning to hit the other resorts in little and big cottonwood then the rental is the way I would go but if you are staying in the PC area then just do the shuttle or ask someone from here if they can give you a lift for a fee (beer and cash might work well).

I'm sure it would be a bit of a hassle, but I believe Utah transit has started a bus from SLC to Park City. Would probably have to change buses, but probably worth it. also, I would check price again on shuttle. i think it's $40 each way per person.

If you're going to spend your entire time in Park City, renting a car seems like the wrong play (unless you're driving to other resorts?).

Two things I'd consider:

Look for car pooling options from Craigslist or other ride share sites. I'm sure you won't be the only one driving to/from PC at that time. Here's a list of some relevant sites: http://www.parkcitygreen.org/Ways-to-Save/Transportation/RideShare-Programs.aspx

Is there a common rental at the airport and PC whereby you could rent-return? If you only need the rental for getting to/from the airport, maybe you could save by not having it for all five days (though there might be extra fees that eat away the savings). This might be more hassle than it's worth, but might be worth a shot if nothing else is working.

Google up the enterprise car rental code for drivers under 25. its some jewish organization out of NYC...but it works. I had a nice conversation about judaism with the chick.....

I'm not sure if it still exists but there was a thing called student advantage and they had a deal with dollar to waive the fee. Also I once rented a house in sandy or midevale through an agency and they had a deal with advantage that waived the fee. If you rented the condo through an agency see if they have a rental car deal and can get the fee waived for you.
