K2 Extreme 164cm or 169cm?

Hi,

What length K2 Extreme skis would you suggest to 17 y o teenager who is 5’8” and 130lbs – 164cm long or 169cm long?

Currently he uses Dynastar Trouble Maker 160cm but wants something a bit bigger with better grip on ice. Intended use: East Coast skiing, 70% all mountain (including some bumps), 30% park. He is solid upper intermediate skier.

Thank You.

Keep in mind K2 skis frequently run longer than other brands (ie a 170 K2 will be longer than a 170 Rossi, etc).

No real opinion on length other than sounds like he's gonna grow some more so bigger/longer can't hurt.

I'm almost 20 lbs heavier & was skiing on 3 yr old K2's 167cm. They're a tiny bit longer than my non-K2 170cm backcountry skis. I'm not a 17 yr old teenaged boy, though my joints wishes I were.

Thanks reddirt, if K2s have advertised length then 169cm may be too long for 130lbs skier.

I ran some searches and found that K2 Extremes (old K2 PE) have short effective edge making them ski short on hardpack – still in tight spots whole ski has to be managed. Anybody can speak from experience?

Thank You.

I just got k2 sights (twintip) in 159 cm, and I weigh 130 lbs, 5'6".  I hope I didn't get way to short skis since you guys are talking about skis 10 cm longer.
