Need Tall Women's Ski Jacket

Thread Starter

I'm 5'10" 145lbs and am looking for a ski jacket.  I usually end up with a women's large, which is too big through the torso and still too short in the body and the sleeves, or a men's small, which is generally more masculine than I'd prefer.  Any suggestions of brands that carry tall sizes or run long?

Hi DianeLynne.  Welcome To EpicSki!

You're in luck.  I've done a lot of ski clothing testing in the past two years.  (need to get more reviews up) and I'm finding some great options for taller women in some of the European brands.

Two that come to mind almost immediately are Kastle and Norrona.  Some of the brands that have stepped up(in the USA) in this area are FlyLow, DNA, and Patagonia.

Segbrown is in  a similar boat with you on this.  Hopefully she'll chime in.  In the meantime, check out some of the tags on the side of this page.  I'll try to give you some good options to look at.

Good Luck!

Chiming ... I agree that the European brands tend to be longer, and if you go with something that has a climbing heritage (eg, Arc'teryx), you will find longer arms and trimmer cuts.

That said, I've rarely had an issue finding jackets that fit rolleyes.gif, so I might have a different body type. The past few shells I've bought are FlyLow, Arc'teryx, and Norrona. Mammut might be worth trying. I have long limbs and a short torso, though, so I just need the long arms. Most of those brands I take a small or medium. My Patagonia and Cloudveil coats, I wear a small. (I'm 5'9") Anyway, try some of the brands with a more "athletic" cut like those, rather than the more "fashion" brands, or snowboard styles, and they should be less boxy if you need a large for length.

It's not uncommon to see reviews on Patagucci's website for their W's jackets to see complaints about arms/ torso being too long - which is a good sign for what you're looking for. I used to do the men's small thing but it was frequently too baggy in the torso.

Thanks for all the suggestions, I'll check them out.  In addition to sleeve/torso length, I have really broad shoulders, so often coats also too tight through the shoulders and upper back, even if the width of the rest of the torso is fine.
