Looking for opinions on some ski manufacturers

Thread Starter

I am looking to buy some new all mountain skis in the next few months. I ski a mix of groomed and powder runs, depending on the conditions. I would consider myself more of an expert skier in that when I am not with my son skiing, I am usually off on the blacks or double blacks.

I live in Colorado and would like to support some of the local ski manufacturers, however, I have not found a whole lot of reviews on these manufacturers because the don't have the big dollars to advertise like some of the other brands.  Some of the brands I am looking at are: Icelantic, Fat-ypus, Rocky Mountain Undergroud (RMU), Liberty and Romp. If you could provide any review, good, bad or ugly on any of these brands, it'd be appreciative.

This is your first post?  Try searching the site first.  Also, some of the skis (e.g., Fat-ypus) were reviewed by the big magazines plus POWDER and Freeskier, etc..  ExoticSkis.com has some reviews of what you are looking for and a listing of more ski manufacturers than you can imagine.  There are other Colorado brands that you missed, like Ski Logik (Breckenridge), Folsom, ScottyBob, Wagner, etc.  Some of  the "local" guys press skis locally while others press overseas.  All use at least some non-domestic materials.  You have a big universe to chose from.

Also, try searching TGR as well; i.e., this:

Icelantic site:www.tetongravity.com/forums

works from within Google (i.e., search only within the www.tetongravity.com/forums site).  Also works here with:

Icelantic site:www.epicski.com/f

There are plenty of reviews on both Epic and TGR for all the skis you're referring to.

ON3P has some sick skis. Perhaps the Billy Goat.

Out of the 291 companies I know of (so far), here is the list of brands who are essentially USA corporations, with some manufacturing done in the USA, others overseas...some mixed sources...  There some reviews of a tiny fraction of the brands HERE...but search the web for other opinions!  Some info may be out-of-date, but it's a good start.  Search places like TGR (like KevinF suggests) and the web in general.  Take this list with a grain of salt...it is not perfect.
