Jackson Hole Opens This Saturday - 11-26-2011

The GOOD news is that it won't be just the Apres Vous white ribbon of death.

 

The Jackson Hole Mountain Resort announced yesterday that they will open the following chairlifts this coming Saturday at 9:00am:  Apres Vous, Teewinot, Thunder, Casper and the... drum-roll please... BEST NEW LIFT IN NORTH AMERICA, the Marmot chairlift... as well as the Bridger Gondola.

Here's a photo of the ski hill from the valley a week ago:

And we've had about 25" of snow on the mountain since then.

I'm in San Antonio TX right now.  I saw this on FB last night and am so stoked to get back in time for opening day!  Can't wait to try the new Fischer Vacuum 130.

Hey, tpj.  See you out there on Saturday.  It looks like they've already run groomers down Sleeping Indian, Easy Does It, and Upper Sundance.  They were grooming Werner and Moran when we were at the Village a couple of hours ago.

 

Meanwhile, Teton Pass is skiing well.

The countdown continues.  

 

We're supposed to have a good storm this afternoon and tonight, so there could be a foot of new snow for opening day tomorrow.

 

In the meantime, a group of us did a Jackson Hole tradition yesterday.  There is a bowl to the south of Teton Pass called Thanksgiving Bowl.  It's west of Avalanche Bowl, southwest of Olympic Bowl, and east of Christmas Tree and Edelweiss bowls.

 

It's considered very good luck for the ski season if there's enough snow to ski Thanksgiving Bowl on Thanksgiving Day.  Here we are:

 

Skinning.  That rounded knob in the sunlight to the right of our group is the top of Thanksgiving Bowl:

It was snowing heavily for most of the day.  The snow cleared up around 4:00 PM.  It should be pretty nice tomorrow.  We'll all be out there.

 

Bazzer:  Thanks for the AWESOME pics for Liberty.  She just loved them.  Hey, WE all loved them.  Truly amazing photography.  Thanks again!

Look at all those tracks...  You don't think that maybe the layering might be broken up and the stability affected?

If the SinJ family's happy, then I'm happy too. You all are of course most heartily and sincerely welcome.

 

Had a busy few days around here. T-day was followed by a baby-naming shin-dig on friday, and our extended family will grow a bit larger today with a wedding. The groom, who I just met, has an AT rig, and will be making his first ever visit to Jackson during the holidays. Was going to tell him about Epic, but he seemed a bit preoccupied with babies, an open bar, and the impending end of his bachelor days. If I get the chance before he heads out, I'll clue him in on the local Bears should he be looking for boots, guide service, private lessons, or the joys of life in the mountains.

 

Enjoy a great opening and spectacular season.
