Anyone ski lake Louise alot?  I booked a short trip there for the first weekend in dec was curious if much of the mountain is usually open by then

I've not been there, but their website says 110cm of base, 5 lifts open, 30 runs open.

My buddy has been around much of Western Canada and he says hit and miss at Louise for early December.  They don't get snow dumps like parts of BC, so tough to tell in advance.  They might get a couple good dumps now until then.  Fingers crossed, eh?

I was there a few years ago in early December, 2 or 3 days before we left on the trip it looked bleak but they had one nice storm and we had a great time. One of the most beautiful places I've ever been. I also think that the WC may be there that week which should add some interest (and take away a few of the trails).

The backside (Paradise chair) is scheduled to open tomorrow, and we are in the middle of a big snowstorm here in Banff with around 1-2 ft forecasted. So December is looking pretty good at this stage, make sure to catch some of the World Cup if its on while you're here!

It'll probably be mostly open, but i'd be careful if you're gonna ski off piste

They've opened all the lifts today at Louise and have Standish open at Sunshine. My guess is that you'll see the Divide chair open after the weekend (particularly if we get some more snow). If you are skiing Louise and Sunshine you might want to check into conditions over at Kicking Horse as well.

There is a Mens World Cup downhill race tomorrow (November 26) at Lake Louise.  There have been delays in both days training runs because of snow accumulation.  Usually good news unless you are slipping the course.

Delays to due........I'm assuming you mean lack of snow accumulation?

Fingers crossed.

A CAST member Dustin Cook seems to be suggesting otherwise in his blog post:

Training One Cancelled

“If this keeps up, we’re going to have to get the snorkels out. Absolutely puking in Lake Louise.”  - Volunteer @dougsymington

It’s been absolutely dumping since I arrived in Lake Louise yesterday afternoon. Things weren’t looking good for a training run today, and somewhat as expected it was cancelled. But being good Canucks we made the best of it today and went up to rip a few pow runs of course! Looked like the snow was slowing down when we went up, but it’s snowing harder than ever right now, so we’ll see if we even manage to get a run off tomorrow…

View at Lake Louise

This is a photo taken at about 11:10 EST on November 26, 2011. Looks like snow to me.

Nice!

Things are looking great here in Banff, amazing considering its still only November! As previously mentioned, Lake Louise has all chairs running, Sunshine have opened Angel and TeePee today, and Norquay is expected to open more lifts on Friday. There's some photos from the past few days up on http://www.skibig3.com/photos.

You picked a good year for an early December trip.

Just remember it's not called the Rockies for nothing, there will still be sharks looming on many runs. If you see a bunch of untracked pow right next to a heavily tracked out slope, there is probably a good reason why.
