Another thread in this forum regarding relocating got me thinking about a post I've been meaning to make. My wife and I are considering a move to be closer to skiing (and fly fishing). One of the locations we are considering, and probably the front runner, is Oregon. Normally, we wouldn't target Oregon for skiing, but we have family there -- so it makes the move more appealing as a whole.
So, we're trying to gauge how the skiing on Mt. Hood compares to other locations in the country. Neither of us have ever skied there (we will soon, hopefully).
It goes without saying that Mt. Hood skiing won't hold up to the resorts in UT, MT, CO, etc. But we're coming from PA, which has pitiful skiing. So, we know it is better than that. However, how it compares to VT skiing is a mystery, and how many tiers below the skiing in the Rockies it is also remains a mystery. We've heard good things about other Cascade resorts (i.e. Bachelor and some of the WA resorts), but Mt. Hood always seems to get a bad rap.
Let me say in advance that I know this is a difficult question and one likely without a clear answer. I'm just looking to gauge how decent the skiing is that will be 25 minutes away if we move.
Any feedback from those that have skied there is welcome.
