Interested to hear what actually happened....it'd be hard to believe they died w/out hitting a tree.

how groomers are the most dangerous place on the mountain and the early season lack of terrain. You obviously never seen a hard groomer collision.

Horrible news. I'm angry and sad. Condolences to the family and friends of the departed.

The Denver Post article said the Breck boarder hit a tree, and that the other skier was 62 and died in an accident on Gitalong Road at Vail ... that's just an extremely flat road, as I remember, I can't imagine going fast enough to do such damage. Maybe someone hit him at an intersection? Often those deaths end up being cardiac arrest, too. Terrible news.

Oh dear, just found the Vail article; I'm sure someone around here knows him. "Longtime local doctor dies at Vail on opening day..." He went off an embankment.

*shakes his head*  Said news for the start of the season.  I counselor I see was hit by a snowboarder two years ago and ended up having six cracked ribs from it.  He was wearing a helmet and that's the reason he is probably still alive.  I started wearing a helmet last year after what happened to him.

As I noted in the Killington thread, the skiers there have been remarkably well-behaved.  Not overly aggressive and doing their best to get turns in without hitting others.  I'm pleasantly surprised.  Sad to hear about these tragedies in Colorado.
