It's official. I'm skiing Friday.
Somehow I think you're making the right call. Stevens is only opening the Daisy and Brooks chair.
OK, here it is. 18" of new, temps in low 20s, no rocks in most places, great snow.
I made two mistakes today:
#1. I thought that there would be rocks so I brought my rock skis, which are Elan 666s and are not so great in 18" of powder. I did not bring my soft snow boards. Idiot!
#2. I got onto Chair 8 at about 10:45 and was still near the bottom when it stopped, dead. I sat there for 1.5 hours. They began to evacuate the chair, but then got the thing running so we had to sit around some more while they cleared everything and inched us up to the top. When I got off the chair I could barely stand since there are no footrests on any of the chairs at Baker and my circulation was cut off. I was also getting pretty cold. Nobody was there to say anything to us. No apology. Nothing.
Other than that it was a great day.
Apparently one of the chairs fell off chair 8 this morning. Chair 1 also ran for a total of 30 minutes today - not sure what was up there. I do know you should have been up there when they dropped the rope for the pan side at 1:00. Best run of the day, top to bottom untracked.
Crystal opened today, limited operation, more this weekend.
Saturday and Sunday: Discovery, Chinook Express, Forest Queen Express, Green Valley Express, Rainier Express and the Mt. Rainier Gondola will be open
currently snowing: 35" inches at the summit and 16 degrees, 25" at the base and 24 degrees!
I'm jealous! Wish I could have made it to Baker. PT continues, knee brace set to 80 degrees today. Hopefully La Nina causes massive snowfall all season so there'll be plenty of snow when I get released to ski around May.
