I recently moved from Toronto to the mountains in BC. Went from a city with a population of about 6 million to a place with about 4500 people. It's a bit of a change but I got used to it. I make less money here but get taxed less so I make more per pay (which is weird), pay less for where I live and utilities but food and gas is more and to get to a mall, I need to drive 650 km round trip.
I would do it again in a second. Only bad thing for me is making new friends as there aren't many people here and the people who are here, well some of them are just not type of people I wanna be friends with so I have alot of alone time on my hands, I miss my friends as I see them having fun while I sit alone looking at this damn computer screen. The local resort opens in 2 weeks and I have a seasons pass so I am ready to go and enjoy my new hometown. Skiing everyday is something I always dreamed of and now it's a reality. I say go for it, if it doesn't work you can always go back but if you don't go you might always be wondering "what if"
I am aiming to make my move out from toronto as well by mid next year, but i am trying to move to vancouver. Its 1 hour away from whistler and less than 30 minutes away from other local mountains which are 10 times better than anything here. I was just curious to know your location? I have been to vancouver 3 times and find people there much happier/more trusting/helpful than here in toronto, also i was able to relate to them better. It seems from what i have heard friends or friends of friends say who have moved there through their work, that the work environment there is more laid back as well. Just curious to know your location and how you find the work atmosphere in B.C?
