Which Skis for me? (Different from the thousand other 'which skis' threads posted by know-nothing noobs)

OK. So I'm a Green Square and Double Black skier. I need some new skis this year. Actually, I probably needed new skis last year, but I got some steezy poles on sale and so I had to put off skis. My boots are only 10 years old, so I don't need new boots. If I wear three pair of thick socks, they fit pretty good.

I didn't bother reading all the other threads on which skis for me subjects because no one out there is anything like me. I live near the beach in Cali, and like to take an annual trip to Boyne Highlands to shred the gunnar (why do people always misspell it gnar?). I like bumps and the deep pow they get there, and the local beer is the best.

So my question is this. And thanks for your help. I know it will be the best advice I can get.

Should I get Red skis or Yellow skis?

Sounds like the DPS Wailer 99 should be perfect for you, but it only comes in orange....

If you don't like orange, the Blizzard Bonafide would be great choice, it has a red bull with yellow eyes.

Edit:  I would really see if you can demo both yellow and red skis, huge difference in turn radius.  I prefer red, because when I crash I can find my skis faster.

FINALLY....a thread where I can have something meaningful to contribute

Answer: Red, definitely. Yup, red

Sure would be a quite forum if one were only allowed to start unique threads.

Obviously, you have little understanding of ski color functionality.  When skiing red skis you have to simultaneously dodge all of the humming birds who think they're good to eat, deal with the skiers who think you're on ski patrol, and put up with people who believe you're making a political statement.

If you ski yellow skis, you only have to deal with the apes who mistake them for bananas.

Yellow is obviously far superior.

Red.

If you get injured while shredding the gunnar, it will look like your skis are bleeding onto the snow.  A picture like that would get you some sort of prize, for sure.

On the other hand, if you buy the yellow ones and you get particularly frightened standing above the gunnar you are about to shred, it will look like your skis are... oh, nevermind, just think positive and get the red ones.

Hmmm ... best advice I've seen yet for myself ... and it isn't even my thread!!!

You missed the obvious - BLUE skis. Don't know WHY you can't do a SEARCH as BLUE skis have been reviewed ad naseaum, and they're the BEST.

Actually the real answer is AC30 - the perfect ski for EVERYTHING.

Red.

I'd get the yellow ones.  The red ones are pointed the wrong way.  Who wants a ski that only goes up?

If they don't have yellow in size medium, I'd get brown ones in either a large or small.

Decisions, decisions!  Of course, a blend of yellow and red gives orange, which gets us straight back to the dps Wailer 99.

At least you get a full pair with the red ones.

Why not the Orange ones??? For that matter, I am partial to Green ones. Just sayin........

Sheesh, I thought everyone knew red skis are faster.  Everyone over at Road Bike Review knows red bikes are faster and that's what we always recommend when someone asks.beercheer.gif  But if you're afraid to go fast, just get the ones that fit best and make sure you get them from a competent fitter.

Why limit yourself to just ONE color....

Real steezy skiers don't even need skis.  They can totally float in neck deep powder with their boots and mad skillz alone.  Just ask the shredders over at TGR!  I swear to God half of them were shredding that way before you were even out of diapers.  Seriously, just go ask!  roflmao.gifsnowfight.gif

Left ski yellow. Right ski red. Period.

Actually, Phil, if you look carefully, it's clear that the red ones are for both uphill AND downhill that's why they have twin tips.  The yellow ski only comes as a single because two skis slows you down on tight traverses and gets in the way on a 3 inch wide track.

It's obvious, Red on on left foot, yellow on right, only if you like to turn left though. Otherwise the other way around instead. Sorted!

Don't be talking about red skis and periods. Please.

Red and Yellow are too easy to find, how about White, make's it more fun to search for when you lose it.roflmao.gif

Now you forgot an important piece of information we all need to know.  What color is your jacket?  You can't get skis that aren't color coordinated to your outfit.  Those red skis would ski so well if your outfit is black with red accents, but if your outfit has yellow accents then the red skis won't work for you at all.

I do hope your boots match what you are wearing.  If not, you better find a good ski fashion coordinator and replace them first before you even think about new skis.  A mismatched ski ensemble is such a no-no on the slopes.

My jacket. You mean this old thing?

Yes, that's really me. Circa 1990 somewhere around Deer Valley / Park City. I still have those poles and one of those knee braces. Sadly, the rest of the getup is gone.

Sadly?

Yes, sadly. I'd rock that thing every retro day I could. Including the Bolle goggles and the headband. I'd love to have the hair back too.
