I have a pair of Bridge's that are 179's and am thinking they are a tad too big. I am interested in either the Mantras or the Kendos at 170. Any thoughts?
kendos or mantra for east coast
Too much ski is relative to your preferences and experience. The Mantra and Kendo are both the stiffest skis in their respective width categories. Hence they both have great grip and are long on stability but short on maneuverability and nimbleness especially in bumps. OTH, the Bridge is one Volkl's best, but least publicized models. The Mantra and Kendo are both better than the Bridge at really hard snow but are worse at practically everything else. So, if playful and easygoing with a slightly stout side to it is your goal, the Bridge is the better ski by far. Your size would suggest the 179 but your ability and experience would justify the 171.
So the question is "Do I go with the 179's that I own, or do I get the 171's?" I have only skied them twice and really liked them, but I think I would be more confident on the 171's. I guess if I can sell the 179's, I would get the 171's. If not, I still have a great ski that I can hopefully grow into (in terms of skills).
