This is Nov. 2011 and you release a new ski, great.
Why call it a 2013 ski then? It's barely into the 2012 season ![]()
If this type of crap continues, the "date" will mean absolutely nothing...... (btw, it's not better 'cause it's "newer")

But you'll love the graphic!!!
It's in limited release right now, and will presumably stay the same over the next year. I think the intent is to avoid penalizing early adopters who may later resell by saddling them with an earlier model year ski.
That's a problem in itself....
It has been common practice going back years for late/early introductions. K2 is famous for them, the Extreme comes to mind an in fact they are coming out with a Rolling Stones series soon.
LOL, seeing you post in here, I thought you were going to complain about the graphics and that the orange was too uhmmm orange.

just for the record, DPS refers to this ski as a 2012/13 product, and looks at it as a 2 month early release (versus a traditional mid-season OR/SIA launch) that would happen in January 2012.
so yeah, sorry they were released 2 months early ;)
Sorry but this is the beginning of the 2011/12 season.....I'll send you a calendar if it'll help you out.

Haven't seen the ski.......
now I have ![]()
TC...you should've bet me.....'cause it ain't bad ![]()
and Philpug, the orange is not too orange, though it would be even better if it matched the FKS 140/180's but need to see them side by side to be sure.
LOL, you buy that whole package and I will make sure you get a special deal, oh yes I will mount them for you too!

Maybe if you had some "leftover" '12's..... ![]()
Orange IS my favorite color ![]()
Phil and I were talking about how the DPS Skis color choice(s) are reminiscent of ......
Photo cred Rossi Smash
The ski that put Connecticut on the map! Well, maybe after Samuel Colt......
So how many "colors" does DPS have out there currently?
rossi-
currently there are:
red (lotus 120 &138, cassiar 80), yellow (wailer 112), orange (wailer 105 & 99), and baby blue (yvette, nina)
over the past 2 years, dps has also offered:
green, deep blue, and white
thanks.
don't forget this to go with the ensemble.....
for those that were asking, the wailer 99 184cm hybrid is confirmed 2060g.
Any reviews on the womens Nina 99? dps skis
I demo'd them but haven't completed my review yet.
In short, It didn't suit me well as an all mountain ski, but I've spoken to others who thought it did well in that regard.
I liked Nina better in deeper snow.
If you're looking for a ski like this that has a strong bias to deepish snow, then this is a strong contender.
Same impression from demoing the mens' version, this is a shape/flex formula that works exceptionally well in soft snow. If that's your target, it will work great. The only question is why not go all the way and get a 112RP (Yvette in your case) instead. I really feel that 112RP will behave much, much better in deep snow and won't loose much on hard snow compared to the W99 (or Nina99). Having said that if hard snow is your target there are skis that do way better than either of the Wailers in those conditions.

Hey DPS engineers and designers! You have rocked my ski world with the Nina 99's. Ok, now I am not exactly ripping through 4 ft of deep and 50 degree steeps! But these skis make me want to attempt more challenges. We just came back from a ski trip at Big White, Kelowna, B.C. The Nina 99's are like Porches on my feet, every turn on powder, ice, crud, moguls, groomers is sweet, quick and fun. They give a nice kick and g force swing in a way I have never experienced on other skis demo'd in the past. These skis have a way of carving through everything, and my buddies all mentioned that I have never skied better. They are light, quick and my confidence and fun level has gone through the roof. Not bad considering early season low level of conditioning, the fun factor and payback from the Ninas have revved up my love of the sport to a new peak. One small thing had to be overcome, needed new boots to match these great skis. Lindsay from Dizzy's at Big White expertly fitted me with a pair of Atomic Pro's. They suit my narrow feet, and glue me to the skis perfectly. I had the Look bindings mounted 1 position forward, as I don't ski a lot of steeps. Perfection with my stance. So, gentlemen, well done! This is the first ski I bought based on following your story and research, as there was no place to demo them in Ontario. Being an Architect and Interior Designer has given me an instinct to hone in on good engineering and design, you guys have nailed it. Anyone who feels like they are stuck in deadsville with their ability will soar with the Nina 99's . Plus they are a gorgous looking design as well, love the graphics and colours. Well done to Mike and the sales team, who answered my endless questions about length, etc. and I have not needed to de-tune the tips and tails. I am motivated to strengthen up for spring, when we go to the Rockies again, as the Nina 99's have got way more to give! BTW, the DPS poles are also excellent, well balanced, big baskets, and can telescope to high- low or whatever height and variation you want. Again, well done, guys!
Thanks for the kind words Winni!
really glad you love the skis, and thanks a ton for the feedback :D
love em? I am re inspired. anyone who is bored and stuck might consider getting on board with what you at DPS are up to. How many times have we inbounders that don't go off piste prayed for new snow and are stuck in a resort with the same old? well its like hiring a new dance band, the tunes are different even if the floor is the same. Love the kick they give at the end of a completed turn. Way easier to get a rhythm going on crud. These skis have different feedback to the skier, is all, if one is prepared to listen to the ski, and you don't have to be a smokin steep and deeper to get the magic either. Vintage women, and bored inbounders would do well to demo these, if they can. btw, I am sooooo glad you specified the longer 176 cm for me, and got me out of my old 168cm Elans. I really like the extra length at speed and in the powder, but the skis perform shorter in the moguls and crud. hugs,
Winni
I am replying to myself. the DPS nina 99's are off the scale of fun, and are pushing me to a new level of confidence and new terrain.
Mn new 99 SEs just showed up..Any one else care to comment on this ski while I wait for the new binders? Trab race binding btw :)
Nice thread bump.
I'm actually in the middle of a longer-term demo of the 2013 W99 Hybrid and the new 2014 W99 Pure3 construction skis. I'll put some more time on them over the next few days and may even bring them out to Jackson Hole and Big Sky in a week. Stay tuned for the full review...
