What prompts you to give a green ThumbsUp?

Are you giving green thumbs ups?

What kind of post prompts you to push that button?

I've been using it since its inception whenever I find the post to be of good quality, if it's helpful to me or if I think it would be helpful to others.  I also use it if a post makes me smile or laugh for any reason.  I also use it to make a remark that may not be appropriate for the thread.

Since you asked...

Be sure to reciprocate.

A green thumb requires plentiful fertilizer and cruel weeding practices.

I've used it if I agree with something or I think someone nailed it.  I've never thought that +1 or whatever contributed anything to a thread and really don't get into that "padding post count" thing.  If your comment doesn't ADD to a thread, just equals another post, why post it?

I've also used positive feedback if it was something that needed to be written, even though it doesn't win the thread, even though it doesn't represent something I would write or wish to have written.

I've also used positive feedback to leave comments tangential to the thread.

Either:

-a very helpful answer (to anyone's question, not just one of mine)

-a response that cuts through the BS and expose some stupidity or truth for what it actually is (I love a well worded and sincerely deserved smackdown, sorry)

-a humorous post that truly makes me laugh and brightens my day (witty, sarcasm, dry.....type of humor is irrelevant)

I'm about 100x more likely to 'Thumbs Up' a witty comment than anything else, but now that they are the flavor of the day, I've begun using them as a +1 type reinforcement. In the past if someone said something I agreed with and was well said, well I just left it alone. It's been said.

The only thing i dislike more than a "+1" or "me TOO" post is the (I won't mention my term for this...) is the "Quote a huge long post with multiple photos only to add a 'me TOO' or 'how COOL' response" wheee, thanks for sharing.

(I'm currently not really digging the "I'll give you a thumbs up if you reciprocate" game, but have fun with it if that's what you're into)

I go to rep whore threads and spread the love...

This thread needs a poll by the way..

Posts I typically icon14.gif

  1. Humor, especially ruthless humor
  2. Insights
  3. Expertise
  4. Defending victims of cyber bullying (creates conflict of interest with #1 sometimes)

You can add a poll now:

What's a whore thread?

Don't get excited, I think he means "post whore"...like the this vs. that thread and others that are pretty much about nothing.

I googled "whore thread," and found that it's an often used term.  But I was at work and the system blocked me trying to get into any site that offered a definition.

OK, so now I've been looking at whore threads and talk about whore threads on other forums.

Has Epic been similarly smitten?

There are whore threads and there are hoar threads.

Attention whores:

I know!  I hate that too.

I would argue that both the +1 remarks and the this vs. that sort of threads serve to expose and display the personality of the poster(s).  I find value in that.
