3D Map of Whistler now available as an App

Hi,

I have mentioned my website/s before so I will keep it brief.

We have made a 3D Map of Whistler using Google Earth. It is now also available for both iPhone and Android - the webpage is interactive, while the Apps are simply maps (although you can use your GPS to see your location). See the links for more info.

Thanks!

Now that's cool!

I used this map regularly on the web and am glad to see Android App now available. It's unmatched in the world of trail maps, nothing like it anywhere. Nothing like it available anywhere whether 2-D or 3-D trail map applications.

Thanks for the nice replys!

I want to point out that this App requires an internet connection, which can cause some data usage concerns. It is probably the #1 question so far.

If you load our App and load the map while on a WiFi connection (before you leave your hotel and/or use the free WiFi in the restaurants on the mountains) - and preferably you zoom in on the terrain you intend to ski to make sure you cache the imagery - then when you are outside (on 3G) you load the 'Google Earth App' and NOT ours, you will find our map is still there - according to our studies (admittedly small group) the data download is almost zero.

Go into the settings of Google Earth and increase the cache size. You only start to download data if you try to explore terrain you have not already cached. I presume there is some kind of data usage just to 'confirm' you have  an internet connection, but the tools we used to try and measure the usage doesn't seem to report it.

Besides, the real point here is the webpage (hope to have the new design online before the official opening 24th Nov - although we will probably open around the 18th) side-tracking ....

If you use the webpage, it becomes quite easy to learn the layout - hopefully you won't actually need to use the App - although still buy it of course :) just in case you get stuck in a white out / flat light conditions ......
