WTB: Inexpensive expert level alpine ski for northeast (180ish)

Thread Starter

Looking to buy my first pair of skis. I have skied a few times a year for the past 25-30 years, but just bought my first season pass for Camelback in the poconos. I also go up to Quebec once a year, and sometimes Vermont.  Probably would class myself as a Level 7 or somewhere between Advanced and Expert (from reading the classification guides online...I certainly have a ways to go to really consider myself an expert I'd say, although I'm not sure that's even my goal).

I typically rent 180's, and mostly ski single black diamands. When I'm in Quebec I also enjoy blue square glades. Occasionally I do bumps, and rarely but sometimes moguls.   I'm thinking somewhere between a carver and a mid-fat.

I am not a thrill rider, I don't do jumps and that sort of thing. I just enjoy coasting down and making parallel turns.

Seems very difficult choosing a ski to buy. I am not looking to spend a ton on my first ski purchase. Preferably something with bindings - I have boots already, size 10.5.

Does anybody have any suggestions or something for sale that they would offer? Again I am in the Poconos.

Looking through what is for sale in the gear section, a real winner is:

I ski Camelback each season for a couple of days - The Gotoma is not a good choice (sorry Pete)

There is also a pair of Blizzard 8.7's, a little shorter than what you want plus need a base repair that would also be a good ski.

I just posted some 184 cm. Elan Mantis 662 skis184 cm. with Marker 1300 Bindings (set for size 27/US 10/315 mm boot) for $200 shipping included. These have been good all-mountain skis for me over the last several years and may be a fit for your needs given their dimensions (116-76-102) and good edge grip on hard snow.

The set is in good to excellent used condition with a total of 15 days of use. The bases of the skis have no major damage and have recently been tuned. The top sheets show minor signs of wear with nicks along edges but no major scratches or other damage. Send me a PM If you are interested.
