How is Vail in march from the 11 to the 17?
What are conditions like? spring skiing or possible powder?
Also please what are the best runs
Hi...have you tried searching the forum for this information? There have been oodles of similar threads here, so you might want to use the "search" function to ferret out some good answers. And, without knowing your terrain preference, it's kinda hard to answer your "best runs" question.
FYI--mid-March coincides with a lot of college/school spring breaks. Be prepared for mega-crowds.
March is a great month to ski at Vail. Unless it is coral reef. It's usually spring conditions, which means you could get 2-3 feet of powder overnight, winter snow, frozen chicken heads, or nice slush. Usually, the snowpack is close to it's deepest.
What kind of terrain do you like? Vail has over 5,000 acres of skiing. Unless you like long sustained steeps, there's something there for you.
I guess you will like the back bowls and Blue sky basin.
If I'm not wrong, the back bowls are south facing, what may be an issue in mid March if you don't get fresh snow.
Well, last year the Gathering was out in Summit County in March. We did two days at Vail.
The first it had been snowing and was pretty awesome. Other than the whole not being acclimated to the altitude thing.
We were back a few days later, it hadn't snowed since, and in fact the previous day it had melted and refrozen the whole place into a lumpy ice cube.
From what I'm told that was epically bad for Vail, but in March YMMV with the weather anywhere.
