Mt Baker advice

Thread Starter

A couple buddies and I are looking for a new place to go this year and we've heard good things about Mt Baker.  I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations on where to stay and how to get to and from the mountain.  When's good to go?  Is there enough terrain to make a 3-4 day trip worth it?  I'd say we're advanced skiiers (can ski anything we've encountered in bounds, handled Silverton pretty well last year).  Any advice helps.

Thanks

Welcome to EpicSki,

To get an idea of what you're looking at check out the link below and be sure to look over the unofficial guide that is just below the reviews.  After you've read those, then come back and post your questions.  We'll be glad to help with information.

hi posaune I also did as directed and read your info on Baker. Have to congratulate you on it's accuracy. You pretty much covered all but the gable burgers. Good little hill that everyone should

try if they are in the area. For snowboards I think it would be almost the holy grail.  Did you ever try out the various mono ski prototypes brought there for feed back in the initial days of the sport?

Nope, never tried a monoski.  There's at least one guy that skis a mono fairly regularly at Baker, but I don't know who he is.  I just see him from the chair from time to time.

at Baker he's probably left over from the  70's haven't seen one of those for years. Thought they had long since evolved into snowboarders. Lots of snow in the cascades last couple of nights.

Yes, lots of snow, but not nearly enough.  I'm wearing a hole in the rug praying to Ullr.  I can't ski between 11/24 and 12/19 so I'm working on getting enough snow to fall early so that I can make some turns before my blackout.

And thanks for the feedback about the unofficial guide.  I'm glad someone else sees it the way I do.  It makes me think that I'm not off base and that the guide could help someone.

Hi looking out my den window at another day of sunshine on Baker and there are blue skies over the San Juans. You might need to pray harder.

And I'm looking out my living room window at the San Juans with their blue sky and the Coast Range.  I see some snow up in them thar hills, but there needs to be a lot more.
