Keystone, CO with a frozen Lake Dillon.

An advantage to pre-Christmas skiing is that the Lake is usually not frozen yet.  Keystone and Copper open in a few days...PM me for some great early season lodging specials for Epic Bears.

Loveland ski area

Loveland is a great area for both early and late skiing with demo days in November and powder to yourself in April (and sometimes early May).  They are still selling 4 transferable tickets good all year for $129- you and 3 buddies can each ski the same day for less than $33!  All of the above pictures were submitted for the contest, but I may post up a few of my own for Loveland to give you an idea.  Loveland really is the best ski area everyone drives past.

I always say that the best camera is the one you have with you.  That's why, much as I love the picture quality, I gave up on SLR's.  Aside from "planned shots", I never had it with me.  I've got a pile of lenses and filters, etc. but what I use is my compact point and shoot.

I hear you, that is why many of mine are taken from the lift!

All of my ski photos come from a little Cannon PowerShot 520 that fits in my pocket.  I have a fancier camera, but I have never brought it onto the mountain.

Found myself in a similar position, spent money on a good camera but don't carry it with me - too bulky...

All I have from last year are kids pictures.  I have to teach the boys to use a camera.

The easiest way down from Chair 2, Alpental last April:

And so you don't get the wrong idea about life in Washington, here's some more typical PNW weather hopping in to Powder Bowl, Crystal Mt. last April.  Breezy, moderate visibility:
