Unfortunately ESA is dEad for now.  The reason for agreeing with Bob Peters on Aspen is that it has, arguably, the best ski school in the US (look at the large number of current and former demo team members at Aspen), the vast amount of terrain (as much as. Anywhere in North America--over 5,000 acres), and the incredible dining/après ski scene.  Other than Whistler, I don't think there is an area with a comparable set of attributes.

They're the links to the Epicski Gathering trip in late Feb/early March. Should be awesome. Plenty of variety. Ski buds. Locals showing you their mountain - sure beats familiarizing yourself with a trail map.

Resorts:

Sunday: Skiers Choice/Arrival Day for some

Monday: Alpine Meadows

Tuesday: Mt. Rose

Wednesday: Northstar at Tahoe

Thursday: Squaw Valley

Friday: Heavenly

Saturday: Kirkwood

*exact days ARE subject to change depending on weather and last possible event/demo schedules.

mike then what is this event above, as listed (or am i mistaken)?

The ESA was the Epic Ski Academy, a ski camp with instruction.  The Gathering is a bunch of folk from this board getting together to ski somewhere.  You said you wanted a top notch ski school.  That's not the gathering, although there will most likely be a bunch of good skiers to ski with.

There was some talk of some sort of clinic at the gathering. But I have not heard much about it other than as a possible idea or something.

And I will say that, having gone to last year's Gathering, skiing with a lot of good skiers - many of whom are or were instructors - I came back with a lot of new skills and I'm skiing better than I was before the Gathering. Totally worth it. It's a great experience.
