Wow, where to even start? There's the most obvious- and by that I mean you can see it from Rte.11- is the repainting and overhaul of the red chair. It's been stripped, primed, paited, the seats and framework have been redone, the lift shacks have been upgraded, the bullwheels have been either painted of spitshined and even the engine room is surgical clean now. Even the lift inspector has told us he doesn't think Red hasn't looked or worked this good since '72... and it's all because of the rabid Magic skier contingent and the chair sponsor program that raised over $17k to do it as well as the hard working people at Magic who put in the elbow grease. The Black Chair will also run this year and has been running throughout the summer for maintainance work and such, so that will be great to have on the busy days for sure.
She's beautiful, ain't she?!??
Increased snowmaking is again up at the top of the list as well, with flakes on track to blow on the west side (mostly just Wizard) for the first time in YEARS. Todd has been welding pipe laying in mud puddles and on rocky cliffs since May, so if you see him buy him a beer, he has seen some serious abuse this year. This will be even more of a big deal when Magic gets their new cat and crew of seasoned operators as well. Don't worry Magic faithful, nobody wants to steamroll the west side but it will be nice to have the ability to churn it up on those hard crust days for sure.
There are new faces this year at Magic as well. Alex is our new marketing guru and Steve is the new mountain manager, both are taking over for our very own Alaska-bound Matt Lillard. Mike is our new full-time lift mechanic, and we also have an arborist on staff now too with new groomer operators in the works as well. Stoked to welcome them all to the team and look forward to the advancements they will no doubt bring to the hill!
Also, Magic's resident tuning geniuses Vermont Snow Wizards are pleased to report that this year they will be located right in the base ldge for your convenience and carry a fleet of DPS demo skis including the uber-hot-right-now 112RP and Wailer 105. Also there will be several skis from Euro-indie brand Whitedot Freeride available for demo as well, including the Director, Preacher and The One. It is great to see the quality of skis available to demo finally elevating to the level of terrain they'll be on and I for one can't wait to try all these amazing skis!
The bar and kitchen have also changed hands and now when you party into the night Magic benefits... So consider that your enabler . Those of you who were around at the very end of the season last year saw the on-hill ice bars and other fun stuff, so look for the good times to multiply exponentially this season! Also our new bar manager will be rotating different specialty microbrews throughout the year so look for l him to nail down some unexpected treats from around the northeast.
The shareholder program is steaming ahead as well, so get your shares while you still can!
Then there's the new terrain, which kind of goes without saying these days. Magic volunteers have been working harder than ever to solidify Magic's place at the pinnacle of Southern NE tree skiing. Don't believe me? This video was taken of the work done in ONE run created in ONE summer- Testment to the possiblities when you throw out the notion it can't be done and join your bark-blasting brethren for some good old fashioned trail work. I'd tell you about all the new shots but I think the video will do a better job than me rambling to show you the type of stuff you can expect from Magic this winter.
Of course, if you want the whole rundown of all the projects, you can follow the progress at:
or you can "friend" Magic on facebook
So please, use the first few pages of this thread to share stoke from years past, voice your level of stokeage for the coming season, to start throwing out callouts, asking questions, and sharing the hopes of a great ski year to come! Can't wait to get back out there with all my friends and of course to meet some new ones on the Red Chair. Cheers to the coming season!
