Simms

You guys who fish, what do you think of Simms gear? Curious, because a shop near me carries it, I dont't know the brand as I don't fish. They make a nice looking softshell with Windstopper and a solid 3-layer GoreTex jacket, both of which looked like they'd work well for skiing.

I worked on a forest service fish ecology porject for the past 4 years. They used simms waders, boots, etc for the stream crews and put them gear through hell each summer. I think they make bomber products.

I am sure their jackets are bomber, thought they may not have all the ski specific details you would want, e.g. powder skirt, pockets in the right places, gussets, edge guard patches, draw cords / zipper pulls designed for use with gloves on, etc... that sort of thing. On the other hand they may work great too.

Simms makes excellent gear for fishing.  I've been using Simms Gore-Tex waders for 6-7 years and they are very durable.  I retired my felt sole wading boots this year and bought some Simms non-felt wading boots and really like them.  But, their Gore-Tex jacket is designed for fishing, not skiing and their stuff does tend to be expensive.  There are so many good jackets for skiing why even consider one designed for fishing?
