Could be a tough week temperature wise. Mad River does not have much depth, so we should keep an eye on the conditions.
The main lodge is called the base box at MRG. The Bird Nest is located at the base of Birdland... I think.

yeah my mistake...
base box
If we have to make the call to another resort we will but as of now its MRG as long as they keep most everything open. They are 100 percent open as of today.
besides skiing is more fun when its slightly sketchy.
The days leading to the Tahoe Gathering, the snow conditions looked sketchy, but we got a nice storm system and had a great time.
I have no doubt that the East Coast Gathering will ride the same amazing string of good fortune!
Have fun and post lots of pics!
It sounds like a nice gathering. Too bad I can't make it. However, I will definitely be in Stowe the first week of April. Perhaps I'll see some of you then.
Sweet. Be sure to keep us in the loop.
no chance of storm...really. Not that I would want it, it would screw up the corn cycle.
Stowe will not be sketchy due to a high snow pack.
Good fortune comes in many forms.......Spring Corn is one of them. ![]()
hey tom, ( cirque) i had a great time skiing with you in tahoe,( event though it was only a few runs) be sure too reach out if you ever get east of those sierras and ski VT.
e/c gathermeister, there doesn't seem to be any new info for jay. is jay still scheduled?
heidi, chris and i will be there thurs - sun, but wont ski sunday- flying back to nyc early and have to get chris back to school in burlington. i hope there are still some bumps around; so josh will not be relegated to groomers and he can have some fun chasing the "little ripper" through the zipperline. those mrg tele bumps are spaced a lot tighter together than alpine bumps, if they are soft, there will be a lot of smiles at the base lodge. mrg also has its own brand of beer, great hamburgers and a must see souvenir shop.
accorrding to my daily mrg report, they got a foot of fresh since thursday, its 40F currently and the entire mountain is open! lets hope it stays that way.
see everyone at mrg on thursday.
ps. i know theres a bear in reno who wants an MRG belt, i'll see what i can do about that........

Bringing World Cup caliber ski equipment and service to all skiers - from pro ski racers to everyday all mountain skiers and into the...
just got a report from MRG.... good coverage but 50 degrees today and a skittish wearther week, dicey is th etrem that they are using......... lets keep our fingers crossed that MRG makes it.
as the saying goes, ski it if you can.......
MRG posted this morning... "Ski It WHILE You Can", supposed to be warm all week with rain, the combo of rain and sun is not good. Skied Jackson Gore (Okemo) yesterday and it was serius mashed potatoes, Okemo wont make it through the week.
This is one crazy season. I recall the first time I skied Okemo and Killington being the first week of April.
The whole country is suffering from lack of snow this year, with early thaws.
I have no doubt that this East Coast Gathering group of Bears will have fun. Its just sad to see the snow falling apart so early in the season.
Well, for good or worse, I have my airplane tickets and hotel booked - no turning back even if all snow melts tomorrow, I'll just have to ski through mud:) I'm sure a few runs will still be open at all the scheduled mountains and there will be very few people on the slopes...
MRG has lost alot of base.....
Stowe is still looking good.
can we have a vote? If MRG does not open is EXTREMELY sparse on thursday should we?
A. go there anyways if its open
B. Go to Smuggs?
C. do another day at Stowe?
Stowe
Since I already bought a lift pass for MRG through liftopia (ie no refund)... lol That said, I'm staying right by Stowe and don't want to kill my new pair of skis.
P.S. Is there any reason Sugarbush is not being mentioned here at all? It looks like its around the same distance away from Stowe as MRG...
As much as I was looking forward to skiing MRG, I'm leaning towards skiing Stowe on Thursday. I still have four "anytime days" on my Stowe pass, and this weekend is probably the last chance I have to get up to northern Vermont. Gives me a chance to burn off at least three of those four days. Plus, I don't really feel like trashing the bases on my Bushwackers on the first day of the Eastern gathering.

ok well ....
I got to say this. You will not see me complaining to much about creative grass patch skiing at MRG:) nor will most of the locals. Kinda of why I like that place people are just happy to be sliding on snow(and sometimes not snow).
I will still be at MRG on Thurs, look for orange/rust jacket, black pants and skiing on Blizzard Ones, don't care what is open , will make turns on what is there. I'm getting pretty good with Ptex, will also be at Stowe on Friday.
What day is the first day, thursday or friday? And the first day is at MRG, right. Unless that changes.
ill be at mrg on thursday as well, we are a threesome, same gang as tahoe, although we may have a few pals from UVM with us as well. are we meeting at the base?
seems like the best place ,considering parking, sinlge chair, beer etc.
see everyone there........
Nice, looking forward to skiing with you. I think Whiteroom and I will be up at the Quad around 9.
Given that epic and Buschwaker are for MRG, I'll cast my vote for it too then. Gotta trust locals...
P.S. Still, why Sugarbush is not on the agenda?
Just to be clear, I'm working (at Stowe on Thursday), but I'm sure I could have fun at MRG (I'd bring my "sacrificial" Pocket Rockets though).
I'm good with either...or Sugarbush for that matter. Am coming up Wednesday and planning on staying near Stowe.
Skied MRG on Sunday - a few brown spots here and there, but not enough to make me think of going elswhere. Buddy skied there today and said it was awesome. Corn in full effect. He is planning to join us on Thursday. Friend of ours was at North (Sugarbush/Mt. Ellen) on Sunday and said it was great turns there too. Sugarbush is currently selling North-only tickets for $30 until the end of the season. If you're thinking Smuggs, I've been seeing coke bottles in the local gas stations with a twofer sticker on them. I already have one lying around; I can try and drink a lot of coke between now and Thursday and pick up a few more if anyone is interested.
My regular ski partner (wife of Mr. Awesome-Corn-Monday) is also an MRG local and they are both planning on skiing Wednesday. I can try and get some last-minute beta from them and post up if folks want to know about conditions that day...
EDIT: Radios. Yes? No? Is there a standard EpicSki frequency? Apologies in advance if this has been covered in an FAQ somewhere.
one more time - what time at basebox on thurs? MRG!!!
That's the spirit! 9 AM!
is that between 8 am and 10 am? also, im not sure if you are yelling at me.........
:) see all of you there........
