Political Ads on Epicski???

I noticed a political banner ad for the first time today on Epicski. This happened to be for Obama, but it really doesn't matter to me who the ad may be in support of. I do NOT think political ads have any place on Epic!! We will be INUNDATED with them everywhere we turn over the next year. .. CAN WE PLEASE SEEK REFUGE FROM THE STORM HERE???????

I haven't seen any yet but fully agree.  Skiing is my refuge from politics and I wish to keep them separate.

I saw the political ad. Agreed, lets keep skiing free of politics !

You really think Epic decides what gets displayed? You are SO wrong. Sure, they may have some control, but not really.

I have an ad for Volkswagon right now. Want to know why? Because I visited the VW site recently and they know it. Same with backcountry ads. The ads you see are different from the ones I see, even in the same thread.

Now, since this thread invokes the POTUS by name, I'd guess that chances are improved that we'll see political ads. If you've visited electsomeschmuckin2012.com recently, you'll dramatically increase the chances of seeing banners from that schmuck, and probably also from bachmanperryoverdrive.com as well.

It is technology. Either block all cookies or wear your tinfoil hat when you are surfing epic. Either way, whining to the powers that be is likely going to have very little impact. Or go to www.quityourwhining.com (FYI, I made up that, as well as the other url's in this thread - I doubt they actually lead anywhere). cool.gif

FWIW, the google sourced ads are driven by your cookies.  If you're seeing political ads then you probably have some cookies in your system that is baiting them.

This is another reason that our Politics and Hot Topics area is in the Supporter lounge, away from google search engines.

We can submit a request for these type of ads to be stopped.  See what happens.......

Sinecure, what kind of ads do you see?wink.gif

To the OP - you're a supporter, so if they really get your panties in a bunch you can turn off the ads.  To the others who are complaining and aren't supporters, well... you get what you paid for.  As someone who works in this industry, let me tell you that trying to block all of that stuff from coming through is pretty difficult and/or time consuming.  I'd much rather the mods/admins of this site work on features and improvements than worry about certain ads showing up.

+1 to what sinecure said.  Some of the funniest forum posts I've ever seen are back when retargeting was fairly new, and people would be complaining about some type of ad showing up all the time and outing themselves (in one way or another) in the process.

Backcountry.com is a PAIN.  Visit the site once, and they follow you everywhere.  Finally just deleted the cookie.

Deleted all cookies.  Excuse the ignorant question, but if I use the option to turn off ads, will I lose visibility to ALL ads, including the site/forum sponsors?  I don't want to lose visibility to their ads ... we should all encourage folks who step up to sponsor these forums.

I see American Express...

I think it might be worthwhile to ask Huddler if it is possible for supporters to turn off ads, but not affect the Featured Sponsors

I've had ads off for so long I didn't realize there were ads from featured sponsors.
