Newbie just to say hi

Beginner's Zone, guess that's for me. I've decided to start skiing this year, been thinking about it for a long time. I'm starting as an almost complete newbie. I used to go skiing with my mom and dad as a kid, a few times anyway, the last time though I actually broke my leg going UP the hill, was on the rope tow and my ski hit a patch of mud and twisted my leg around. I'll probably be cross country skiing mostly, but there are some skiing slopes within distance. I'll be asking some questions, especially about gear at first, and where to get it, I have some ski stuff but it's about 50 years old I guess. Nice looking forum.

Where are you thinking of seeing what modern skiing is all about?  The current equipment makes it a lot easier to get started.

Yeah, just from what I've seen on this forum so far, I think modern equipment is going to make one heck of a difference. You'd probably laugh at some of the old stuff I found in my parents garage. I've got an old pair of ski pants that might just be back in style. I wonder if they're worth anything?

People sometimes use the old skis to build things or as decoration.  But that's about it.  I haven't tossed my straight skis from the 1980's just in case someone wants them.

Where are you likely to ski first?

Probably my back yard:) There are some slopes down in the southern part of the state, quite small but adequate for a beginner like me.
