It was pretty unpredictable in the morning.  One run you'd be fine.  The next was insane. I was matching turns with JMD. We were about ten feet apart and someone going about 40 on full rockers went between us. I usually try to ski right next to the trees when it's crowded but if I left three feet I got passed on the outside. We'll try afternoon next week.

Somewhere the 40mph rocker guy is telling his friends,.......

"Doood! I was shreddin' the gnar on the WROD and these two old dudes were doing some ballet stuff in my line.  That's sooooooo unsafe!"

Yeah, that's when I shut it down, too. They would just straightline out of the park all the way to the lift. nonono2.gif  There were a few lines of nice little soft moguls in the pm, as well.

No ballet, just using the edges in the way they were intended. *

At your age, you need all the lycopene you can get!  beercheer.gif

1. Methinks this might have been the first year that another resort beat A-Basin to the punch (other than Loveland, that is). LVSSR opened up on October 8th.

http://news.wedoitallvegas.com/articles/las-vegas-ski--snowboard-resort-first-to-open-in-the-us-for-20112012-season-2.html

Funny how nobody hyped this event (I've hit A-Basin on/near opening day many times in the past, but I have to say that claiming you skied in Las Vegas in October would've been pretty mondo bueno)

2. I always wonder why Timberline (Mt. Hood) never promotes their "opening". Granted they are open all summer, but they usually close for a week or two at the end of September and re-open early October, which, technically, would make them always the first North American ski resort to open each new season.

Cali WROD's won't be happening until at least Halloween...

There was a bit of hype for Wolf Creek, which opened a week before A-Basin.

Are you ready to head to JH, Dookey?  There are some patches in Corbets biggrin.gif

There seems to be a distinction between (a) opening for a weekend and then closing until reopening for good, and (b) opening for good. Wolf Creek and Las Vegas both closed during the week (LV isn't opening until Thanksgiving?), but when ABasin and LL open, they stay open.

I'm not commenting except to point out the observation. Someone else can debate the definition of "open." :-)

I can get behind your observation SB...plus I just talked to my buddy in LV and he didn't even bother to hit opening day there. His reasoning was that they only had the bunny slope open, which he said is about 25 degrees of gnar...

That said, still curious about Timberline...if I ran that place I would be pumping ads about how we open early and stay open late (i.e. open in late Sept/early Oct and run through Sept, almost 12 months straight). Then again, prehaps they feel that those in the know know and they're good to go with that.
