Folks just some info. first decent dump of the new season in St Anton am Arlberg , Austria
I skied in Lermoos in Tyrol on Saturday. Puked all day, with minimal wind. Really one of my top days on skies. Most people were frightened off by the snow, so the hill was close to empty. A year ago on the same day (New Years Eve) there were big lift lines. Skiing above knee deep powder all alone in the afternoon on normally pisted runs. Just awesome.
Then it started to rain on the drive back to where we're staying (Oberammergau, Germany), and it was a torrential downpour all night. Woke up to see green hillsides where there had been two feet of snow 12 hours earlier.
Today was warm (9°C in Garmisch), but at least dry. I'll ski in Garmisch tomorrow, and hope it's OK. They do a great job of preparing pistes, and they looked fine from the village today. I'm guessing anything off piste will the crap, though.
