What size of Armada JJ?

Hello,  I am an intermediate-advanced skier that is looking to buy a pair of Armada JJ's.  I am 6'2 and 220 lbs.  I am torn between the standard 185 JJ or the stiffer 195 AK JJ.  I want a ski that's playful in the trees and in the powder as that's mostly what I ski.  I am just wondering if the AK JJ will be a handfull in the tight trees.  I also like to play around and do 360's off of natural features in the trees/backcountry, and do the occational nose butter.  Basically I'm just looking for whatever imput you have on what you think would be best for my size/ability/what I like to ski.  Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Thanks, Travis

Based on your size, I was thinking 195 all the way. For a 185 I was thinking 190lbs or less.

Do you think that the 195 would work well in the trees?  I thought it was more intended for big mtn style riding and not so much tight turns.  I would like to get the AK if it would work well I think it does fit my size better, i'm just wondering if it fits my terrain...

Yes, the 195 JJ has tip and tail rocker and a shape that combines the best of a traditional side cut ski for hard snow performance yet the tip and tail shape of a reverse side cut ski which rules the pow, especially in trees. The most fun ski I ever skied in pow and trees was a reverse camber and side cut ski. I am certain the AK JJ would be very close in feel. Forget the flippy, jippy park stuff and the 185. Buy the 195 and go rule the mountain is my advise.wink.gif

Based on " I want a ski that's playful in the trees and in the powder as that's mostly what I ski. I am just wondering if the AK JJ will be a handfull in the tight trees. I also like to play around and do 360's off of natural features in the trees/backcountry, and do the occational nose butter.", from that the AK JJ wouldn't work for what he wants, unless he decides to charge big lines all day the 185 will work better for him.

Even at an addtional 10 cm , and a touch of added stiffness the AK will still be playful for a guys his size. I feel that he would overpower the standard JJ. I feel that Armada measures short anyways. It's not like some small stiffness tweaks, and added length makes this some magical charging only ski.

Thanks for the feedback guys, I think I'm going to go with the 195.  If that doesn't work out I'm sure i'll be able to sell them to a buddy of mine!

Thanks, Travis

Threadjack, sortof...I like the trees and powder, mogul fields, no groomers, but not always fresh powder because I have to ski with what the snow Gods give me when we plan the trip.  My stats are 5'-8", 185..I ski Snoops at 174, but also have Monster iM77s at 163, but they do feel a little short.  I am fearful of the JJs in 185 because my 12 days of skiing a year dont always provide with great command of my planks.  I read about the uniqueness of the shape of the JJs and read all the encouragement for the longer lengths.  My question is, will I be disappointed, at my size with the 175s, coming from the Snoops at 174?  I have not rolled out the S7 or the Opus.  Thanks in advance...

If you look at the JJ's in person and compare the running length to your 174 skis, the JJ's running length is likely shorter due to the tip and tail rocker.  If your an advanced skier I would go 185.  Lots of reviews here  http://www.tetongravity.com/forums/showthread.php/104129-The-NEW-Ski-Review-Links-Thread  scroll down to Armada and copy and paste the url for the JJ's into your browser.

185. Unless you're straight lining a face you don't need the AK 195. The 185 will be much more fun in the trees and bumps. 220lbs isn't that heavy.

Thanks for playing^^^^, but the thread jacker said "My stats are 5'-8", 185".

travissmith, I am curious to know how you liked the AK JJ in 195cm? I was reading your thread and I am in the same situation. Are you glad you went with the 195cm or do you think the 185cm would have worked better. I'd appreciate your feed back. Cheers!

Just ran across your post. Would the 185 JJ be a good fit for me at 6'0" 200? I'm a little smaller than OP and I would really like a ski with a playful feel.
