I've been in orange Lange Freeride boots for about 4 seasons and absolutely love them. They're 2 sizes smaller than my shoe size. Any shorter and my toes would begin to curl, so it's a very high-performance fit, but still reasonably comfortable (except when it comes to landing jumps on hardpack!).
They aren't very warm though, and I've been spending a lot of time hiking to fresh runs at the top of the chair for the last couple of seasons- something they're not well suited for. I'd also like to do a little AT work from time to time.
I'll probably pair these boots with K2 SideStash skis and Marker Baron bindings, which is also in keeping with the AT-able alpine gear theme.
What boots should I try? My local shop recommended the Quest 12. They fit very similarly to my old Langes, but I'm skeptical of only having 3 buckles. I hear they have reliability issues as well. What else would suit my needs well?
