This discussion is about finding solutions, not criticism. .
Cirquerider- I agree that the forum is read and managed by people, many of whom I have skied with! You may also be right that at_nyc has misunderstood the issue that you are dealing with. However, I think he offered a pretty good idea even if it is not the perfect solution because of some technical limitations that are not obvious to him (or myself). I am not exactly an IT professional, but have dealt some in this area and have a pretty logical mind.
As I stated earlier in this thread, I am not sure how the tagging system is suppose to work, but cross indexing posts that legitimately belong in two different folders (like snowboarding in Europe) seems like a pretty good idea. I imagine that the technical framework here and many other forum sites isn't set up to handle this, but maybe it should be.
Before submitting this post, I figured I try to learn more about how tagging works, so I opened a new browser and did a search...among the many listings, there was only one wiki, so I went to that first...that took me to a FAQ page where after scrolling down I found something about tagging...opening that up provided a lot of info, maybe too much, but after scanning through I saw that you can tag posts...went back and looked for a way to tag this post before submitting, but none of the buttons on top seemed to offer that option and the bottom only gives the choice to preview or submit...went back to the tagging faq and scanned something about nobody tagging before finding that the tag button is suppose to be in the right hand column...went back to the top of the post and saw some sponsors ads before finding the tags section.
My point is that I am of at least average intelligence, made over 1000 posts here, have used tags with my own blog, but never even knew that tagging existed on this site until reading this thread. Most people that use this site understand that a thread belongs under a certain topic/folder, but very few know about tagging...maybe this will change in the future, but that will require a lot of education.
While it may have been laced with too much unjust criticism, I think at_NY is right that it makes more sense to cross index by folder (not to be confused with double posting which has obvious problems) posts that legitimately belong in more than one place.
