White Pine Ski area in Pinedale, Wyoming announced last week they aren't opening for this season. A local consortium had kept it alive for one year after some management changes, but even with all the snow, not enough business to stay open. About 90% of the skiers were from Sublette County, which is thinly populated (even for Wyoming).
Sigh.....they managed to stay open for 10 years. Actually they opened in 1939, but were down for much of the '90's. Once my kids became better skiers, there wasn't much to draw me there. Ride the chair for 14 minutes, and get to the bottom in 2 minutes - what's wrong with this picture?
