Hi Everyone,

Wondering if you could help suggest which size is more appropriate for me.

Ski: 2012 Atomic Access

Height: 5' 4"

Weight: 150 lbs

Ability: Advanced to Expert

Style: Aggressive

Snow: Rocky Mountain Snow; powder with some groomed

Current Ski: Atomic Tweak 163 cm

Gender: Male

The Access is available in 161 or 171 cm; Tip rockered.  If they had one in between, I would take it but stuck between a short one or the longer version.  Would plan on skiing in more powder this year.  What would you suggest and why?

Rocker makes its ski shorter than the length. for example my night trains are a 186 and ski like a 155

If you're 150, then the 171s sound like a better fit as they'll be a bit stiffer. And, to echo the prior post, rocker makes skis feel shorter on piste...

Yes my mistake. In deep snow the whole length is used. But if you've never used rockered skis before, you might be surprised at their manouverability.

You don't say if you are a male or female. Atomic makes the Century which is the same ski for women in sizes in between, 156, 168, etc....

171 or 181 if you can find it.

If I decide to ski some trees, will I run into some problems (I prefer no trees but friends may decide to take me)?

definitely 171.  I had the same issue with my daughter last season and originally purchased the shorter ski (as per the store rec).  I returned them before the season after taking my daughter to demo day and she tried the longer size and I had a chance to talk to the K2 Rep.  He rec. the longer size as well as it does ski shorter.  I had a heck of time finding the size I wanted in december.

The Access is not an especially rockered ski. The tail is not rockered. The tip rocker is moderate IIRC. That said, in terms of length I'd probably go for the 171 just because it'll offer a bit more stability in powder. And because, as noted above, even the moderate rocker on the ski will make for a shorter feeling ski on piste.

Pretty skinny and minimally rockered ski for powder though wink.gif
