descente passport 2012

Thread Starter

be careful this year regarding the passport.

Some of them are buy one get one free. In particular winterpark and solitude.

Didn't realize this and got burned a bit. The passport this year isn't nearly as good.

As well, last year resorts out west were getting very picky about wearing the correct jacket and if you used more than one.

This year the Passport has been scaled back in a couple of ways. One is that it is only offered on certain Descente jackets and pants, but no longer on their DNA wear. The other is that the number of resorts in down to 36 (last year it was over 40,)

William Tell started a great thread about this deal a couple of seasons ago. Here is a link.

I'll also add a post to it in order to bump it up.

Still looks like a great deal.  I'll be skiing at Nashoba, Jay Peak, Wachusett and Sunday River this year.

Hey folks, how's it going?

Was happy to see Winter Park, Alpine Meadows and Homewood still on the list. Pleasantly surprised to see Alta and Solitude added but disappointed that Powder Mountain, Copper, and A-Basin have dropped out.

If anyone finds a sale on the Passport jackets please let us know. Here's the list I found of participating resorts. Apparently some are actually buy one get one free.

  • California- Alpine Meadows, Big Bear Mountain Resorts, Homewood Mountain Resort
  • Colorado- Winter Park
  • Maine- Sunday River
  • Massachusetts Nashoba Valley Ski Resort, Wachusett Mountain
  • Michigan- Boyne Mountain or Boyne Highlands, Indianhead, Shanty Creek
  • Minnesota- Spirit Mountain
  • Montana- Whitefish Mountain Resort
  • New Hampshire- Bretton Woods,
  • New Mexico- Angel Fire Resort
  • New York- Hunter Mountain, Windham Mountain
  • North Carolina- Appalachian Ski Mountain
  • Pennsylvania- Hidden Valley Resort
  • Oregon- Mount Hood Meadow
  • Utah- Alta, Solitude Mountain Resort, Sundance Ski Resort, The Canyons
  • Vermont- Jay Peak
  • Washington- Mission Ridge
  • Wisconsin- Trollhaugen Ski Resort, Mount La Crosse
  • Canada- Big White British Columbia, Blue Mountains Ontario, Olympic Park Alberta, Hockley Valley Resort Ontario, Mont Saint Sauveur Resorts Province of Quebec, Norquay Banff Alberta, Panorama Mountain Village BC, Silver Star British Columbia, Sun Peaks Resort British Columbia

This has been a great program for both Descente and their customers. I am sure there are skiers who maximize the value of the Passport bring the cost of the jacket down to almost nothing.

These tickets are BUY 1 GET 1

WINTER PARK

SOLITUDE

---

Just want to make it clear.

Last year with the jackets, lift tickets ended up costing $17/piece (sold the jacket after the season). This year will not be nearly as good.

I just sold some of my jackets at a consignment sale.  Looks like Descente is at the top of my list as an addition to my jacket quiver.

That's an understatement Phil!

Actually it's gotten me to several mountains in the last two seasons that I may have never skied. And with me came $$ being spent on lodging, restaurants and bars. beercheer.gif

I assume descente structured some sort of payment to the resorts as well. I give the resorts a good share of cash in beer and food. usually stay off hill.

Planning on picking up jackets for myself and the Mrs. this weekend.  Such a brilliant idea, I'm surprised more resorts don't participate.

FYI, Ski Barn locations in New Jersey had the Descente Passport jackets (mens and womens, a couple different styles and colors) for sale at 20% off this past weekend. Not sure if that's still the case so call first.

We went to the Ski Barn in Wayne, NJ so my wife could try on the coat, since women's sizes are in numbers (2,4,6,8,etc) instead of sizes (S,M,L).  They had 2 mens styles and 2 womens, one color of each.  It was worthwhile so she could try on the coat, but unfortunately for both of us, we couldn't take advantage of the 20% off.  We ordered directly from Descente's website, should arrive at the end of this week.

Got our jackets on Friday!  They look and fit great, and that means I'm open for business.

Looking for any resort in ME, NH, NY, VT.  Have available any resort not in ME, NH, NY, VT.  I have two jackets, so two tickets to each resort available.

I looked the passport over, and each voucher says that it must be intact inside the passport to be honored.  So it appears you can't just tear out individual pages and send them around.

Of course, it's not clear that the people at the ticket window will care about that proviso.

It does say that, however each individual voucher is not unique.  So with some careful removal and taping, I'm confident I can make it appear like it hasn't been tampered with.  It's not like the TSA is inspecting it.  All it needs is to look genuine through a ticket window.

From my experience during the past two seasons (and I started this idea a couple years back, and completed many successful trades), you'd better have the passport booklet with you (and be wearing the jacket of course), and pull the "loose" voucher out of the booklet in front of the ticket person and you should be ok.

I'm not buying a passport jacket this year but I hope it works out well for those that do.

Its a shame Powder Mountain is not on this list this year. Our last day in Utah (2nd trip) of 2010 had given us a last day of 2 1/2 feet of fresh powder across the SLC area. Powder Mountain was our last ticket used and the boarding / skiing was awesome especially with the un-crowded slopes and fresh fluff.

In short; Sad to see Powder Mountain is not added this year.

Surprised Mt. Hood Meadows is even on that list. They can barely be bothered to support the ski community that supports them yearly, let alone free tickets on jackets.
