I believe power was down across the board to as a result of the displacement decrease.... I just hope they don't screw with the WRX/STI too....

And a big no thank you for the CVT

That '12 Impreza looks.......wimpy.  Wow.  Like some family Ford or Mazda.  Yuck.

Is anyone else sick, nausea-sick, retching-sick of the entire "CylonHelmet w.4wheels" styling paradigm that is on everything now, from Subarus to Hyundai Sonatas to Honda CR-Zs?

For a while, auto design was lead by boutiques in Italy. they were doing Mercedes and BMW, and the Japanese just selected one or the other to copy. Not an original idea in their body styles to be seen, IMO. Honda copied BMW and Toyota copied Mercedes. at least the results were Italian inspired, and quite nice for that reason. oh, and Nissan was pretty much out there, pretty much on their own.  the minor Japanese companies, in terms of innovation and quality, just copied the major Japanese companies. So, according to your observations, what is driving the paradigm now? Have they quit stealing design ideas and decided to just fail on their own? That would be refreshing, if ugly.

Well, Honda are doing theirs in JP, Hyundai are doing theirs in Korea and California.    I'll sign on to "refreshing, if ugly", I guess.

You guys DO realize that this is just the next Outback Sport with a 2" lift and a new name (to stop people from confusing it with the big Legacy-based Outback).

What I find really interesting is the new Mazda CX-5.  It should have awesome handling and mpg (low to mid 30s).  They also may bring over a diesel.  300 ft lbs and 40 mpg.  It basically checks all the same boxes as the subie, but should handle a lot better.

the cylon design looks like it was done carving a bar of soap. when Honda quits copying they get lost, IMO. Italian Art, American Science, Japanese technology.

Dino- I heard about Phaedrus but have not tried them. I have been using Euromotorcars in the city, they are ok but also not cheap. I suppose nothing BMW is cheap.

To get me back Subaru needs to offer on its non-WRX models the stiffer suspension and tighter handling that all Subarus used to have until one of the more recent set of model changes.  I love driving my wife's '04 Outback, but when I test drove the new (non-WRX) Impreza, the handling was not as precise and there was lots of lean/wobble in the corners.  Blech.

Hey Philpug! They are here at the US dealers now. I saw one tonight. They do need engine options. I'd do a gas turbo and the turbo diesel. They are selling well here. Kind of an interesting ride.
