Good advice, but I just have the shop do the tires when I bring the car in for an oil change. Yeah, I could do both of those myself, but I'm at a point in life where it's worth it on the time/money matrix to just spend the $20 to have somebody with all the right tools do it for me. YMMV.
Oh, and all the time you save by not changing out your tires evaporates the first time you get stuck.
PS - Blizzaks for my Volvo V70 are about $90 each, or about $500 for the set.
One thing I hate is to sit there waiting for a tire shop to do the wheel swap. All of our local shops have huge waiting lists this time of year (and also in the spring when it's time to change back). Fortunately there's a guy who started his own business here in town who has a mobile tire changing service. He has a trailer that he brings to your home or your place of work and does the changeover while you do something else. His business has been a godsend to me. When I don't feel like calling him however, I can do my own changeover in the garage in about one hour.
My Blizzak tires cost me $250 each!
